Highlights:

  • On 24 September 2026, the Senate unanimously adopted, without any amendments, the draft Act amending the Act on Renewable Energy Sources and certain other Acts (UD332).
  • The amendment introduces an auction-based support scheme for biomethane production facilities with a capacity of over 1 MW.
  • The new regulations will also set out the rules governing the operation of a direct gas pipeline used to supply biogas, agricultural biogas or biomethane.
  • The proposed measures will make it easier for prosumers to use energy storage systems and will clarify the rules governing energy billing.
  • The Act contains the amendments designed to improve the effectiveness of support schemes for renewable energy sources and to streamline the operation of energy cooperatives.

Support for biomethane and RES investments

The amendment introduces an auction-based support scheme for biomethane production facilities with the capacity exceeding 1 MW and sets out the rules governing the operation of gas pipelines for the transmission of biogas, agricultural biogas and biomethane. These solutions will support the development of the renewable gas market and expand the scope for its use.

Easier arrangements for prosumers and energy cooperatives

The Act simplifies the rules governing the use of energy storage facilities by prosumers, clarifies energy billing arrangements and streamlines the operation of energy cooperatives. It also introduces changes designed to streamline the process of preparing renewable energy projects and to improve the effectiveness of support schemes for renewable energy sources.
