The Wieluń Energy Cluster is established

01.07.2020

On 1 July 2020, the Wieluń Energy Cluster was established in Wieluń. The cluster was created with a view to enable more effective use of local energy resources for electricity and heat production, based on renewable energy sources. In addition, the work will aim at preparing hydrogen and energy storage projects.

“The energy transition is a great opportunity,”- said Vice-Minister of Climate and Government Plenipotentiary for Renewable Energy Sources Ireneusz Zyska during the inauguration of the Energy Cluster in Wieluń.

“Stable and sustainable development of renewable energy sources is one of the key priorities of the current government of the Republic of Poland, President Andrzej Duda, the cabinet of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, as well as the Ministry of Climate. We are preparing a hydrogen strategy to respond to the technological challenges of green change we are witnessing. That is why the establishment of Wieluń Energy Cluster is a good opportunity to talk about hydrogen and its use in local communities,”  the Vice-Minister added.

The cluster was established in order to ensure the effective use of local energy resources for the production of electricity and heat, based on renewable energy sources, and also to prepare hydrogen and energy storage projects.

“I know that the Mayor has presented the energy potential of the city to the President of Poland, which has resulted in the acceleration of work related to this agreement and I can announce today that the Wieluń Energy Cluster is now operational,” the Vice-Minister concluded.

The Jagiellonian Institute, a think tank dealing with the energy and infrastructure sector, as well as the owner and publisher of the biznesalert.pl industry portal were invited to coordinate the work of the cluster.

The basic objectives of the Wieluń Energy Cluster are:

  1. Undertaking activities aimed at creating favourable conditions for the development of enterprises operating in the renewable energy sector within the scope of activities of the Energy Cluster.
  2. Undertaking activities aimed at ensuring a permanent and sustainable development of the broadly defined renewable energy sector, contributing to the improvement of the energy security of the region by ensuring an appropriate level of energy generation capacity in renewable energy sources in order to meet local demand for electricity (balancing supply with demand).
  3. Planning and implementing investment projects in the field of electricity generation from renewable energy sources and balancing the demand for energy within the distribution network with a nominal voltage lower than 110 kV.
  4. Planning, generating and distributing heat energy in high-efficiency cogeneration systems, using biomass and energy stored in municipal waste.
  5. Planning and implementing projects aimed at building medium- and low voltage distribution systems.
  6. Planning and implementing hydrogen projects.
  7. Planning and implementing energy efficiency projects in public buildings and other infrastructure, including deep and comprehensive renovation.
  8. Developing R&D projects concerning energy storage technology.
  9. Developing R&D projects in the field of smart energy supply and demand management.
  10. Developing research and development projects on smart grids with smart metering to manage direct interactions and communication between consumers, households or businesses and other grid users and energy suppliers.
  11. Increasing awareness of energy consumers, promotion of prosumer technology development through participation in training and advisory projects implemented by the Energy Cluster.
  12. Undertaking activities aimed at ensuring actual support for the implementation of objectives related to the improvement of air quality, including elimination of low emissions.
  13. Creating and implementing projects in the field of electromobility development.
  14. Promoting, supporting and developing innovation and research in the field of renewable energy in cooperation with entities from the R&D sphere, as well as conducting information and promotion activities for the Energy Cluster.
  15. Carrying out joint marketing projects and building a positive image of the renewable energy industry in the region in order to attract new players.
  16. Developing and implementing joint projects for the development and education of human capital.
