Vice-Minister Zyska at the 3rd Energy Trends Congress

27.10.2020

The role of renewable energy sources in Polish energy sector and economy was the main theme of the opening ceremony of the 3rd Energy Trends Congress. The event, which took place on 27 October 2020, was attended by Vice-Minister of Climate and Environment Ireneusz Zyska.

Wiceminister klimatu i środowiska Ireneusz Zyska

The Government Plenipotentiary for RES showcased energy sector as one of the most dynamic areas these days.

We haven’t seen dynamics comparable to what we see now in the power sector in years.. This is an enormous challenge and a responsibility, because the decisions taken now will bear fruit in the future,  said Ireneusz Zyska.

The Vice-Minister also pointed out the importance of solar power in the dynamics of RES growth, which has been ongoing in Poland.

For a long time now, we have been observing a high RES growth dynamics in Poland. The data of the Energy Market Agency for the first half of 2020 indicate that the installed capacity of RES is already nearing 10.6 GW. We also have to point to the most dynamically developing RES technology in Poland - solar power, which has been unanimously hailed as the king of energy sector not only by the media but also by the sector representatives, the Government Plenipotentiary for RES added.

Ireneusz Zyska also stressed the importance of the “My Electricity” programme – a unique instrument in Poland dedicated to supporting the prosumer power industry – and its merits for the development of renewable energy sources.

“My Electricity” programme has become a kind of anti-crisis shield for an industry that is experiencing a spectacular investment boom these days. The programme has brought excellent results, so the Ministry of Climate and Environment joined forces with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management to work on a new edition of the programme.  Our thinking about the future of the My Electricity programme leads us to consider supporting prosumer installations, but also EV chargers, heat pumps and home energy storage systems”, the Vice-Minister concluded.

During the event, the Government Plenipotentiary for RES informed that the Act on Promotion of Electricity Generation from Offshore Wind Farms will be submitted to the Sejm this week, following the approval of the Council of Ministers.

It is important to develop large-scale energy sources like offshore wind farms. It's a huge economic project. The potential of the Baltic Sea is much higher, exceeding 20 GW of installed capacity. This week we would like to pass the offshore bill to the Sejm the minister added.
