We are all very grateful to the Medics who do tremendous work each day by caring for patients diagnosed with COVID-19, often risking their health and lives. For sanitary reasons, to limit the possibility of coronavirus infection, the medical waste including masks, visors and protective suits must be safely disposed of. That is why we are happy about the initiative of the Voivodeship Funds for Environmental Protection and Water Management, which will provide financial support for that purpose, considering the health and safety of the medical personnel as well as environmental protection - says the Minister of Climate Michał Kurtyka.

The head of the Ministry of Climate added that ensuring the safety of all persons who may come into contact with medical waste is the top priority. The safe disposal of used protective clothing and masks used by the medical personnel is a particularly important task which requires support with regards to ongoing implementation.

Each of the 16 Voivodeship Funds for Environmental Protection and Water Management will transfer financial support to specialist infectious disease hospitals in their respective regions.

We are going to carry out ongoing cooperation with The Material Reserves Agency and Voivodeship Offices to effectively and efficiently transfer the funds to the hospitals and isolation facilities established in each Voivodeship - says Paweł Mirowski, the Chairman of the Convention of the Presidents of the Voivodeship Funds for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

The funds operate in a system

The Voivodeship Funds for Environmental Protection and Water Management in cooperation with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management and Bank Ochrony Środowiska create a system of financing the measures related to environmental protection which is unique on the European scale. Each Fund supports pro-ecological measures in its respective region by providing favourable financing for investments related to the protection of air quality, water resource management, ecological education and environmental protection. The Funds are also involved in mutual national programmes, such as the Clean Air Priority Programme, asbestos removal programme, regenerative soil liming, the support for Fire Services and the national Energy Consultancy Project, allowing to obtain support in the area of investments for improving energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
