We are cleaning Poland of hazardous waste - another PLN 200 million will go to local governments

This year, the government has secured another PLN 200 million to help remove illegal accumulations of hazardous waste. The funds will be used to remove and dispose of waste in 12 locations. 'We are removing hazardous waste to protect the environment and the safety of residents. We are continuing to clean up Poland - this is necessary to eliminate the threat and resolve long-standing issues in accordance with environmental requirements,' said Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska.

- A total of PLN 0.5 billion has been earmarked for the removal of illegally accumulated hazardous waste at 33 locations throughout Poland.
We are allocating another PLN 200 million for the removal of illegally accumulated hazardous waste. We are continuing one of the most important social programmes – the programme for cleaning up and eliminating illegal waste accumulation sites. Last year, we cleaned up 17,000 tonnes of hazardous waste threatening the environment, potential sites of large-scale contamination. This is one of the promises made by the Coalition government on 15 October
– said Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska during a conference on the removal of hazardous waste.
Local governments breathed a sigh of relief
This year, the funds will go to nine new locations and three that already received funds in 2025 and have begun the process of removing illegally accumulated hazardous waste:
- Sosnowiec city (2 locations)
- Kutno city municipality
- Gdańsk municipality
- Łaziska Górne municipality
- Szczekociny municipality
- Koziegłowy municipality
- Piekary Śląskie municipality
- Sławków municipality
- and 3 locations (continuation from 2025):
- Sosnowiec municipality,
- Siemianowice Śląskie municipality,
- Mykanów municipality, Kokawa village.
In total, these local governments will receive PLN 200 million from the state budget reserve this year.
Continuation of activities
We act; we don't just talk. This year, we are allocating another PLN 200 million from the state budget's special-purpose reserve. This is similar to last year, when PLN 200 million from the reserve was allocated to local governments. In addition, PLN 100 million was allocated for this purpose by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management

Another PLN 200 million for the removal of illegally accumulated waste in 2026.
For 2025, PLN 200 million has been secured in the state budget for the liquidation of illegal waste accumulation sites. Thanks to cooperation with voivodes and Voivodship Inspectorates for Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Climate and Environment has created a ranking list for locations that have received funds from the state budget. Waste has been removed from 10 locations – seven completely, and in three the process will continue this year.
We are not slowing down. This year's budget includes another PLN 200 million for the removal of illegally accumulated hazardous waste. These funds will go to 12 locations in Poland. At the same time, we will speed up the signing of agreements from the list submitted for co-financing by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFEP&WM) – these are another 14 locations that pose a threat to people and the environment

Thanks to the funds provided, over 17,000 tonnes of waste were removed in 2025. After completing the task of removing illegally accumulated waste, the entities that received support have the right to demand reimbursement of the costs incurred from the waste owner.
