We have exceeded 10 GW from renewable energy sources

"The power of renewable energy sources in Poland has already exceeded 10 gigawatts. This power is equal to the power installed in the traditional power plants in Bełchatów, Turów and Opole together" - informed Deputy Climate Minister, Government Plenipotentiary for Renewable Energy Sources (RES) Ireneusz Zyska.

As stressed by Deputy Minister Ireneusz Zyska, the dynamics of growth of new photovoltaic installations makes the solar energy sector the fastest growing RES segment in Poland.

"Since December 2015, the power of photovoltaic installations has grown by over 1600 percent." - he said.

Priority programmes for RES development

Deputy Climate Minister Ireneusz Zyska pointed out that this success is a result of changes in the law and the launch of programmes such as "Mój Prąd" (My Current), "Agroenergia" (Agroenergy) or "Energia Plus" (Energy Plus).

"For an ordinary citizen, this means cheaper energy, saved money, new jobs and, above all, clean air" - noted the Government Plenipotentiary for RES.

"Such dynamic development of micro-installations is possible, in large measure, thanks to the so-called rebate system, the energy settlement system dedicated to energy producers (prosumers) functioning in Poland, which enables the prosumer to use the electrical network as a sort of "energy warehouse." The surplus can be used by the producer for 365 days." - he added.

Support mechanisms for renewable energy sources in Poland

Ireneusz Zyska, Deputy Climate Minister, also reminded that the main support mechanism for renewable energy sources in Poland is the auction system, which has been binding since 1 July 2016.

"Other dedicated support systems for renewable energy producers are the mechanisms foreseen for small producers of electricity from renewable sources, introduced in 2018. The 'feed-in premium' (FiP) system and the 'feed-in tariff' (FiT) system are aimed at output-defined renewable installations, using hydro-energy, biogas and agricultural biogas." - Deputy Minister said.

Moreover, thanks to the above-mentioned amendment to the Act on Renewable Energy Sources, as of 29 August 2019, the prosumer settlement system for micro-installations, operating since 1 July 2016, has been extended. The change consists in the fact that the group of renewable energy prosumers was joined by business prosumers, it means end users who are not household electricity consumers.

In addition, the Ministry of Climate is constantly working on new legal solutions, including the development of energy clusters.
