Poland in the Council of Europe

On 26 March 2026 acting on behalf of Poland, Maciej Wróbel, State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Co-production of Audiovisual Works in the Form of Series. The signing ceremony took place in Lille (France) during the Series Mania festival. This Convention constitutes the first international legal framework dedicated to the independent co-production of television and streaming series and represents a decisive step for the European and global audiovisual sector in times of rapid change.

From 16 to 18 March 2026, the 59th joint meeting of the Administrative Council and the Governing Board of the Council of Europe Development Bank was held in Warsaw. During the meeting, the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe Development Bank was celebrated. The event was co-organised by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Poland.

On 23 January, the Permanent Representations of Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom to the Council of Europe organized a screening of the film 'The Zone of Interest' directed by Jonathan Glazer. The date of the screening was linked to the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp (27 January), celebrated as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

At the 1546th meeting of the Committee of Ministers' Deputies of the Council of Europe on 10 December 2025, the Chargé d'affaires a.i. Mr Aleksander Pociej delivered a statement on the environmental threats posed by the shadow fleet in the Baltic Sea.

On 28 November, Chargé d'affaires Aleksander Pociej informed Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge of the Polish government's decision to allocate a voluntary contribution to support programmes for Ukraine and Belarus.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski held a speech today to inaugurate the 16th Warsaw Human Rights Seminar. The Seminar's special guest was Michael O'Flaherty, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe. Due to increased importance of migration, this year's edition focused on the legal and geopolitical contexts of migration.

On 30 September, the Council of Europe held a debate entitled "The Baltic Sea - Europe's stronghold". Democratic security and environmental consequences of shadow fleet activity in international waters. In the context of the Convention on the Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law”. Today, Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski presented the Lech Wałęsa Solidarity Prize in Miami. This year's prize went to Berta Soler Fernandez, a Cuban dissident and the leader of the Ladies in White opposition group.

On the anniversary of the presidential election held on 9 August 2020, Poland, guided by the principles of freedom and solidarity, reaffirms its support for all Belarusian citizens striving to restore the rule of law, democracy, and the respect for human rights in their homeland.

On June 25, during the official visit of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, an agreement was signed between the Council of Europe and Ukraine regarding the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine and the Statute of the Special Tribunal in the Meeting Room of the Committee of Ministers at the Palace of Europe. The Secretary General, Alain Berset, signed the agreement on behalf of the Council of Europe.
