The Legal and Treaty Department performs the tasks of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the field of legal and international aspects of the State’s foreign policy. 

The Legal and Treaty Department performs the tasks in the legal proceeding of concluding international agreements by the Republic of Poland, participates in the negotiations of bilateral and multilateral agreements, is responsible for keeping the Treaty Repository and performs the tasks resulting from the Republic of Poland’s obligations as the Depositary of multilateral international agreements. 

The Legal and Treaty Department prepares legal opinions and legal analysis regarding the public international law, participates in the work of international organizations and institutions in the creation and interpretation of international law and prepares the statements of the Republic of Poland before international courts and in other legal proceedings for which the Minister of Foreign Affairs is responsible.

The Legal and Treaty Department also provides legal representation of the Republic of Poland in international human rights protection institutions and is responsible for the cooperation in legal matters with these institutions.
