On 24-25 August, Minister Czaputowicz will visit Kuwait, where he will meet with the Emir, the head of Kuwait’s parliament and the Kuwaiti foreign minister.

“Ensuring safety and security of persons belonging to religious minorities is a major challenge facing the international community. I believe that our today’s discussions will help us develop necessary guidelines on the promotion of religious freedom and the protection of religious minorities,” emphasised Minister Jacek Czaputowicz at an open meeting of the UN Security Council on the safety and security of religious minorities in armed conflict.

“We feel responsible for supporting Polish education and cultural life abroad. We are grateful to Poles in the US for fostering Polish identity and promoting it in their communities,” said Minister Czaputowicz during his visit to Chicago, where he met with the representatives of the Polish diaspora and visited places linked to the history of the Polish community in the US.

On Poland’s initiative, on 20 August, the UN Security Council adopted a document corresponding with the priority of the Polish presidency of the Council, namely strengthening the observance of international law, including international humanitarian law.

“It is very important for us that you will take a closer look at the Poland of today and how we remember history and look after memorial sites, how much attention we pay to the current development of Poland,” said Deputy Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk to the participants of the “Poland is in you” (Polska jest w Tobie) programme.

“Issues in the Middle East have worldwide political, economic and social consequences,” emphasised Minister Jacek Czaputowicz in his speech during the UN Security Council debate held as part of Polish presidency of the Council on the challenges to peace and security in the Middle East.

On 19-22 August, Minister Czaputowicz will be visiting the US, where he will hold an open debate at the UN Security Council on the security situation in the Middle East region and open an informal Council meeting in the Arria formula on the security of religious minorities. HHe will also visit Chicago to meet the local Polish diaspora.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its concern over the resumption, by Russian-backed de facto authorities in Tskhinvali, of the installation of artificial barriers at the village of Gugutiantkari, located near the Administrative Boundary Line of the Georgian territory of South Ossetia/Tskhinvali region.

“Since the beginning of our membership of the Council, it has been our priority to strengthen international law. It has always been of particular importance for Poland due to its difficult history,” said Minister Czaputowicz during a UN Security Council briefing on international humanitarian law.
