Professional activity has many advantages: independence, self-fulfilment, teamwork. In the case of disabled persons, work can also be a form of social rehabilitation and bring an opportunity to acquire new skills useful in everyday life and to improve those already acquired. ‘Therefore, it is so important to support the employment of disabled persons. In the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, the draft act in this matter is being intensively elaborated,’ says Minister Elżbieta Rafalska.

Money benefits are only one of many elements of the disabled person support system. However, in connection with them, we hear most often that they are too low and are insufficient for a decent living. ‘I agree that these amounts are not fully satisfactory. However, we must note their considerable increase, for example, in comparison to 2015,’ says Minister Elżbieta Rafalska.

On Thursday, the President of Poland Andrzej Duda signed the amendment of the act that entitles all children until 18 years of age to receive the 500+ benefit. ‘Children are our national good; it is the matter of the state to bring them up in social security,’ said the President. The ceremony in the Presidential Palace was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister Beata Szydło, the Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy Elżbieta Rafałska, the Marshal of the Senate Stanisław Karczewski and the Deputy Marshal of the Sejm Beata Mazurek.

From 1 July this year, following the changes within the Family 500+ program, all disabled children until 18 years of age will be entitled to this benefit. Until now, around 90% of children with disabilities have received them.

Co-financing for the creation or equipping of 99 new centres and co-financing for the functioning of 21 existing ones – this is the result of an additional recruitment of offers as part of this year's edition of the "Senior+" program. – As planned, by the end of the year in Poland, there will be a total of over 800 "Senior+" centres. The "Good start" benefit introduced last year by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will soon be regulated by law, and not – as it has been so far – by resolution and regulation.

The Seym passed the government’s amendment on extending the “Family 500+” programme. In compliance with the amendment, the right to the 500 plus benefit will be vested in all children up to the age of 18 years, irrespectively of the family’s income.
