The ‘Working Holiday’ Programme – Republic of Korea
On 1 June 2018, the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of the Republic of Korea on the 'Working Holiday' Programme, signed in Warsaw on 24 January 2018, entered into force.
Benefits of participating in the Programme
The ‘Working holiday’ Programme is aimed at young citizens of the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Korea (aged 18 to 30 inclusive) and allows them to travel for up to one year, combining a holiday stay, allowing them to learn about the culture and lifestyle of the country they are visiting, with the possibility of taking up paid work, which is additional to the main tourist and cultural purpose of their stay.
Conditions for participation in the Programme
Citizens of the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Korea who meet the following conditions may apply to participate in the Programme:
- they have a permanent place of residence on the territory of the sending country (Parties to the Agreement) at the time of submitting the visa application;
- they have submitted a written statement that the main purpose of their participation in the Programme is a holiday stay of up to twelve (12) months;
- they are at least eighteen (18) years of age, but have not yet reached the age of thirty-one (31) at the time of applying for a visa;
- they are not accompanied by dependents;
- they have a valid passport, issued no more than ten (10) years prior to the visa application, with at least two (2) blank pages, which will remain valid for at least ninety (90) days after the end of the planned stay;
- they have a return ticket or sufficient funds to purchase such a ticket;
- they have sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay, in an amount determined by the competent authorities of the host country (Parties to the Agreement);
- they meet the health requirements specified in the legal regulations of the host country;
- they have purchased comprehensive health insurance, including hospital care, as required by the legal regulations of the host country;
- they have not previously participated in the ‘Work and Travel’ Programme organised by the host country;
- they have paid the required fees for submitting and processing the visa application, and
- they do not have a criminal record.
The annual limit for visas for participation in the Republic of Korea ‘Working Holiday’ Programme is currently 200 (two hundred) visas.
Visa procedures for citizens of the Republic of Poland
Those wishing to apply for participation in the Programme may submit visa applications to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Warsaw.
List of documents required during the visa application procedure:
- completed visa application form with one passport photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm, white background)
- passport (original and copy of first page)
- visa fee (PLN 360, in cash)
- certificate of no criminal record
- health certificate
- bank statement documenting the funds needed for the stay in the Republic of Korea (3,000 USD)
- documents confirming education (last diploma obtained or a double-sided copy of a student ID card if the visa applicant is the student)
- job search plan and travel plan

Visa procedures for citizens of the Republic of Korea
Citizens of the Republic of Korea planning to participate in the Working Holiday Programme should submit their visa application to the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Seoul. The visa entitles the holder to enter the territory of the Republic of Poland within 12 months of the date of its issue.
Required documents:
- visa application form completed in the e-Consulate system, printed and signed, and a recent (not older than 6 months) colour photograph measuring 3.5 x 4.5 cm (on a white background, with the face occupying 70-80% of the photograph);
- a Republic of Korea passport issued no earlier than 10 years prior to the date of application, valid for at least 3 months after the planned end of the stay, with at least two blank pages and a copy of the page with the photograph;
- a written statement that the main purpose of the stay is to spend time in Poland, and that taking up employment is of a secondary nature;
- proof of age (at least 18 and under 31 years of age on the date of application);
- a statement confirming that the applicant has no dependents;
- return ticket or confirmation of purchase of airline tickets;
- documents confirming financial means sufficient to cover living expenses during the stay in Poland;
- documents confirming accommodation;
- proof of travel medical insurance with a minimum coverage of EUR 30,000, valid for the entire duration of the stay;
- compliance with health requirements applicable in Poland;
- statement of non-participation previously in the Working Holiday Programme under the Agreement between the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Korea;
- confirmation of payment of the visa fee;
- certificate of no criminal record;
- a statement confirming that the conditions specified in Article 2(1)(a)–(l) of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of the Republic of Korea on the ‘Working Holiday’ Programme of 24 January 2018 have been met.
A national visa under the Programme is granted for a period of up to 12 months and allows the holder to stay on the territory of the Republic of Poland and take up gainful employment as an additional activity to the purpose of tourism. Participants in the Programme are required to comply with the laws of the Republic of Poland.
