Dr. Grzegorz Rzentkowski’s visit at the PAA

27.04.2021

On April 22 Dr. Grzegorz Rzentkowski, director of the Division of Nuclear Installation Safety (NSNI) at the International Atomic Energy Agency made a visit in the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA) headquarters. The subject of the meeting was “Effective regulatory framework for deployment of the first nuclear power plant”.

During his presentation, the IAEA’s expert drew attention to various issues accompanying this process, which pose potential challenges for the nuclear regulator. Dr. Grzegorz Rzentkowski emphasized the uniqueness of the nuclear regulatory mission, the success of which is measured not so much by the implementation of tasks and projects, but by the absence of hazardous events to society and the environment. The key here is - as he noted - efficient risk management by the regulator, based on a proper understanding of administrative procedures, reactor specificity, safety systems, environmental conditions and potential threats.
