Long-standing cooperation between the National Atomic Energy Agency and the Association of Radiation Protection Officers

13.06.2025

The National Atomic Energy Agency continues its long-standing tradition of active participation in meetings organized by the Association of Radiological Protection Inspectors (SIOR). On June 11-13, another three-day conference was held in Katowice, attended by Andrzej Głowacki, President of the PAA.

SIOR conferences are a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience, and also play an important role in the preparation for examinations for radiation protection officers. The conclusions and recommendations from these meetings are regularly published in the bulletin "Nuclear Safety and Radiological Protection" – a quarterly that the National Atomic Energy Agency has been publishing by for 36 years.

In his speech at the conference in Katowice, the President of the Polish nuclear regulatory authority, Andrzej Głowacki, emphasized the importance of Polish nuclear oversight, especially in the context of the development of Polish nuclear power. "One of the most important tasks of the President of the PAA is to supervise and enforce regulations and safety standards for nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities – at all stages of their life cycle: from environmental assessment and siting, through design, construction and commissioning, to operation and decommissioning," the President of the PAA emphasized.

During the conference, representatives of the PAA discussed issues related to the oversight of activities involving exposure to ionizing radiation, the assessment of the exposure of workers and the public, as well as the rules for taking the exam for a radiation protection officer. This year’s SIOR conference was attended by more than 200 participants.
