During the conference of the Association of Radiation Protection Officers (SIOR), held on 9–12 June in Skorzęcin, Paweł Pytlarczyk, Vice President of the National Atomic Energy Agency emphasized the key role of radiation protection officers in ensuring nuclear and radiation safety during activities involving exposure to ionizing radiation in Poland. He noted that an effective radiation protection system was based on close cooperation between the regulatory authority, experts, users of radiation sources and the scientific community.

In his speech, the Vice President of the PAA pointed out that radiation protection was a field that required not only knowledge of regulations and procedures, but also readiness to respond to new technological and organizational challenges. 'The development of modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods, the progressive digitization of processes and changing international regulations make it necessary to continuously improve qualifications and exchange experiences among specialists,' emphasized Paweł Pytlarczyk.

The Vice President of the PAA also noted that radiation protection officers played a special role in fostering safety culture. Their responsibilities are not limited to supervising compliance with regulations, but also include promoting good practices and strengthening safety awareness at facilities that use ionizing radiation.

An important element of the conference is also the participation of experts from the National Atomic Energy Agency. Representatives of the Radiation Protection Department of the PAA discussed issues related to the safety culture in facilities performing activities related to exposure to ionizing radiation, regulations governing the transport of radioactive sources and requirements related to obtaining licenses, accepting registrations and notifications for the performance of exposure-related activities.

As the PAA emphasizes, the SIOR conference is an important forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience between representatives of nuclear regulatory authority, radiation protection officers and experts responsible for radiation safety in Poland.
