A delegation of the National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA), headed by President Andrzej Głowacki, took part in the 36th International Conference of the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. This year's conference was devoted to current regulatory activities in the field of nuclear safety and their adaptation to the changing environment. The event, held on March 12-14 in the USA, attracted almost 3000 participants from over 40 countries.

President Andrzej Głowacki took part in a panel discussion at the 36th International Conference of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission

The President of the PAA, Andrzej Głowacki, spoke at a discussion panel on how national regulatory authorities use international experience in licensing processes. The panel was moderated by the head of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (U.S. NRC), Christopher T. Hanson, and the other participants represented the nuclear regulators of Ghana, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates and the International Nuclear Energy Agency.

“The PAA, as the nuclear regulatory authority of a country that is yet to start the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Poland, highly values cooperation with other nuclear regulatory authorities. The experience of the PAA’s experts gained through participation in international working groups, on-the-job trainings in regulatory authorities of other countries and in direct meetings of experts will be used by the PAA when implementing tasks under the Polish Nuclear Power Programme” - said President Andrzej Głowacki

As part of the Conference, the President of the PAA , Andrzej Głowacki, met with the management of the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (U.S. NRC), including its chairman, Christopher Hanson. The talks concerned further cooperation in the area of nuclear safety and radiation protection, also in the context of the implementation of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme. On the sidelines of the event, there was also a meeting of the President of the PAA with Oleh Korikov, Chairman of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine. During the meeting, issues of bilateral regulatory cooperation in ensuring nuclear safety and  radiation protection of both countries were discussed.

Moreover, the President of the PAA attended a meeting of the '5-party BWRX-300 working group' - a working group involved in the work on the BWRX-300 reactor, established between CNSC, NRC, GEH, OPG and TVA. The conclusions to be drawn from the work of this group may be helpful in the future licensing process of the BWRX-300 reactor.

Additionally, as part of the 36th International Conference of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, representatives of the PAA also met with representatives of the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), an association of U.S. companies from the nuclear energy sector. The meeting was aimed at identifying opportunities and frameworks for further cooperation.

This conference is the largest annual event organized by the U.S. NRC, attended by representatives of nuclear regulatory authorities, international organizations, research and academic centers and other institutions involved in nuclear safety and radiation protection.
