A responsible nuclear energy program must include preparation for radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management. Preparation for this waste management is a fundamental element that should be implemented in parallel with the nuclear energy program, said Paweł Pytlarczyk, Vice President of the National Atomic Energy Agency, during the ARTEMIS mission summary.

– The recommendations and suggestions made during the ARTEMIS mission are particularly valuable to us. They provide important guidance for further strengthening our national framework and ensuring that preparations for radioactive waste and spent fuel management are implemented in conjunction with the nuclear energy program –added Paweł Pytlarczyk.

The National Atomic Energy Agency participated in the ARTEMIS review mission conducted in Poland by the International Atomic Energy Agency. The mission, which took place between March 9 and 17, focused on the safe and responsible management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel.

Representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the host country, the Radioactive Waste Management Plant, Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe , and Orlen Synthos Green Energy also participated in the ARTEMIS mission. During the review, mission experts reviewed issues related to state policy and the legal framework, organizational, technical, human resources, and financial aspects of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management.

The ARTEMIS mission prepared a report containing recommendations and suggestions for Poland within the scope of the review, which was submitted to the Ministry of Energy.
