08.05.2026

In light of reports of a fire that broke out in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, the National Atomic Energy Agency reports that readings from radiation monitoring stations in Poland are within normal limits.

PAA communication

According to the Ukrainian nuclear regulatory authority, the fire that broke out in the exclusion zone around the Chernobyl power plant is spreading into forested areas. Firefighting operations are underway. Despite the fire, neither the Ukrainian nor the Polish radiation monitoring systems have detected any levels of ionizing radiation exceeding normal limits.

The National Atomic Energy Agency is continuously monitoring radiation levels across the country. Levels are within normal limits. Readings from monitoring stations show no cause for concern.

Real-time monitoring data can be followed on the website of the the PAA at: https://monitoring.paa.gov.pl/maps-portal/

There are currently 65 early warning stations for radioactive contamination operating throughout the country. They form the backbone of Poland’s radiation monitoring system. This system is supplemented by 13 highly sensitive stations managed by the Central Laboratory for Radiological Protection, 9 stations of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, and 13 stations owned by the Ministry of National Defense.
