The discussion during the visit of the PAA delegation at the ENSI headquarters in the city of Brugg focused on the cooperation and exchange of experience between the Polish and Swiss nuclear regulators. Regulatory experience in relation to different nuclear technologies and their licencing, as well as the strengthening of the safety culture were also important topics in the agenda of the meetings.

- In connection with the implementation of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme, PAA is intensively preparing for the performance of its regulatory functions, develops its competencies and increases the number of staff. We also exchange information with experienced regulators like ENSI – said Andrzej Głowacki. The President of the PAA underlined in this context the importance of the safety culture, and the role of the leadership in its establishment and promotion.

Apart from the bilateral discussions with ENSI, the PAA delegation had an opportunity to get acquainted with the Swiss programme for the site and establishment of a deep geological repository for radioactive waste and spent fuel. PAA experts visited the underground Mt. Terri rock laboratory and visited Stadel – the planned site of the Swiss deep geological repository.

The bilateral cooperation is based on the 2016 Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation and exchange of information in nuclear regulatory matters between the President of the National Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Poland and the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI.
