Additional support for families with children. The government has passed the Act on the Family Welfare Capital.

17.08.2021

The government of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki puts the family first. We have proved it more than once - for example by introducing the “Family 500+”, “Dobry Start” and “Maluch+” programs. The Polish Order scheme provides for further beneficial solutions available to families with children. The Council of Ministers has adopted the draft act on the Family Welfare Capital. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Minister of Family and Social Policy, Marlena Maląg, spoke about the benefits of the program during a family picnic in the Żabia Wola commune. As part of the program, parents will receive PLN 12 thousand for the second and subsequent children aged 12 to 36 months. Importantly, the extra money will be granted regardless of income. The program will come into effect on 1 January 2022.

- For me, personally, the family is the foundation of society. It is thanks to the family that society later creates its value. All families must be helped as much as possible, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The head of government added: - As long as the government of Law and Justice holds the office, all the programs we have created will be maintained, and we will also develop new ones.

Support for Polish families - the past 5 years

We focus on improving the lives of Polish families. We constantly support them through various programs - such as “Family 500+”, “Dobry Start” and “Maluch+”.

  • 6.6 million children received support from the 500+ program in the amount of PLN 148 billion.
  • Thanks to the aid of PLN 309,000, the number of children living in poverty has decreased.
  • The Tourist Voucher in 2020 brought an additional support of PLN 220 million to Polish families.

The following were also introduced by the government:

  • lower VAT on baby food, nappies, pacifiers and car seats.
  • prohibition of taking children away from families because of poverty.

The Polish Order scheme is another project that will benefit Polish families. One of them is the Family Welfare Capital adopted by the Council of Ministers.

- Following the Family 500+ and Dobry Start programs as well as the Tourist Voucher during COVID-19, we are implementing the Family Welfare  Capital in line with what we have promised - said the head of the government.

Family Welfare Capital - an investment in a Polish family

Family Welfare Capital is a program that was included in the list of 10 projects for 100 days as part of the Polish Order scheme. The new solution is an investment in a Polish family. The aim of the program is to support further fight against poverty among families with children, help in combining parenthood with work, and mitigate unfavourable demographic trends.

- Combining professional and family life is a great challenge, especially for women and young families. This is them who are at the beginning of their career path. These families need to be helped, stressed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

The Family Welfare Capital is one of the components of the 2040 Demographic Strategy. You can read more about it on the website of the Ministry of Family and Social Policy.

Extra money for families: PLN 12 thousand for the second and subsequent children

Family Welfare Capital is PLN 12 thousand for the second and subsequent children aged 12 to 36 months. Parents will be able to choose in what form they want to receive money. There are two options:

  • PLN 500 per month for two years,
  • PLN 1,000 a month for one year.

Importantly, the support will not be dependent on family income. It is estimated that in 2022 approximately 600,000 children will be eligible for the support.

Co-financing of a nursery, children's club or a day carer

Family Welfare Capital is not the only good news for parents! The government has also adopted amendments to the Act on the care of children up to 3 years of age. What does it mean in practice? A subsidy for a child's stay in a nursery, children's club or at a day carer in the amount of PLN 400 per month will be introduced.

Co-financing will be awarded:

  • for the first and only child in the family,
  • for the first child in families in which the next child is covered by the Family Welfare Capital,
  • for a child before the age of 12 months and after 36 months of age.

It is estimated that approximately 110,000 children will be covered by the support.
