Airspace Violation Repelled: Poland's Procedures Prove Effective
10.09.2025
"We are ready to repel such provocations and attacks. We are well prepared. The situation is serious, and today no one can have any doubt that we must prepare for different scenarios,” said Prime Minister Donald Tusk at an extraordinary government meeting convened in connection with the violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones. Procedures worked, the decision-making process was flawless, and the threat was eliminated. Poland remains in constant contact with allies, including the NATO Secretary General. Airports have resumed normal operations.
Polish Airspace Violated by Russian Drones
On Wednesday morning, Polish airspace was violated by Russian drones—a situation without precedent. Radar systems tracked a total of more than a dozen objects.
State Institutions Acting as One
The Polish military immediately activated defensive procedures—those drones that posed a direct threat were shot down.
“I ask General Kukuła, Chief of the General Staff, to pass on words of appreciation to the pilots who took part in this action. Procedures worked, the decision-making process was flawless, and the threat was eliminated thanks to the determined stance of commanders, our soldiers, pilots, and also our allies,” summarized Prime Minister Tusk.
The Prime Minister and the President are receiving constant reports from the military. The special government session was attended by Gen. Wiesław Kukuła (Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces), Gen. Robert Bagan (Chief of the Border Guard), Gen. Jarosław Chojnacki (Operational Command of the Armed Forces), Gen. Marek Boroń (Chief of Police), and Brig. Gen. Wojciech Kruczek (Chief of the State Fire Service).
“There is full cooperation between the government, the presidency, and the military. I want to stress with full force that inter-institutional cooperation is exemplary. I am in constant contact with the President and will soon speak with the Speaker of the Sejm. It is extremely important that in such moments of trial, all institutions act as one fist. And I must assure you, with full conviction, that all these institutions are passing their test,” the Prime Minister declared.
Consultations with NATO Allies
The Prime Minister is also in constant contact with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
“This is the first time Russian drones have been shot down over NATO territory, which is why all our allies are treating this situation with utmost seriousness,” said Tusk.
During the drone-neutralization operation, both Polish and allied aircraft were engaged, including Dutch F-35s. Allied radar systems, alongside Polish ones, tracked the hostile drones.
Russia Will Spread Disinformation – Rely on Official Sources
Russia will attempt to use this attack to destabilize the country and sow panic. Citizens and the public must therefore be alert to disinformation.
“I appeal to everyone, without exception—politicians, journalists, commentators—to be highly sensitive to attempts at disinformation and hostile propaganda. From the very first minutes of this attack or provocation, the Russians have been very active online, and disinformation, fake news, and attempts to spread panic will certainly accompany us. Here we must all pass the test of civic and political responsibility,” warned Prime Minister Tusk.
Authorities urge calm and insist that people rely exclusively on verified information provided by the services—primarily the Polish Armed Forces. Political statements will be issued jointly by the Prime Minister and the President.
Search Operation Underway
Searches for the downed drone debris are ongoing. If unidentified objects are found, citizens are asked not to approach them and to notify the services (at 112). Residents of the Mazowieckie, Podlaskie, and Lubelskie provinces have received alerts from the Government Security Center.
Civilian airports, closed due to Polish and allied air operations, are returning to normal activity.
