22.02.2024
Prime Minister Donald Tusk took the floor in the Sejm during the debate on the opposition's motion of no confidence in the Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, Adam Bodnar. In his speech, the Prime Minister referred to the activities of the prosecutor's office and the courts during the previous government, as well as to abuses m.in in the Justice Fund. The Prime Minister listed a number of actions taken by the Ministry to remedy the situation and unblock funds from the NRP. The head of the Polish government expressed his full support for the actions of Minister Adam Bodnar.
Efficient operation of the Ministry of Justice
In his speech, the Prime Minister reminded that in just two months, Minister Adam Bodnar has taken a number of actions that will help to remedy the situation in the Polish justice system. The Ministry of Justice has drafted amendments to the National Council of the Judiciary, depoliticised the prosecutor's office and set up an investigative team to investigate the legality of the management of the Justice Fund. Work is also underway on laws concerning the Constitutional Tribunal and separating the functions of the Minister of Justice and the Prosecutor General.
- You are submitting a vote of no confidence in the minister after two months of his operation. Today, I can announce with satisfaction that the tasks that Minister Adam Bodnar has taken on have been carried out to a large extent at an extraordinary pace and with great culture, stressed Prime Minister Tusk.
An apolitical prosecution service and an independent judiciary
The previous government led to the partyisation and dependence of the most important centres, including the prosecutor's office. Today, the main goal of the Ministry's activities is to rebuild the justice system, because it cannot serve the interests of the party. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed that it is thanks to the actions of Minister Adam Bodnar that we have an apolitical prosecutor's office.
- When I recommended Minister Bodnar for the position of Minister of Justice, I said with deep conviction that Professor Bodnar's greatest asset is the deep legal philosophy of a man whose dream is to make the judiciary independent of politics again, said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The Prime Minister also addressed MPs directly, including those who have been responsible for the judiciary in recent years: "Why did you submit a motion of no confidence against Minister Bodnar? Because the prosecutor's office began to explain, step by step, what was happening in your ministry, what was happening in the Justice Fund. What was the role of ministers, deputy ministers and the prosecutor's office in the times of Ziobro and PiS?
We are getting closer to unblocking the funds from the NRP
The actions of the current Minister of Justice, Adam Bodnar, have resulted in the fact that funds from the National Reconstruction Plan may be unblocked for Polish. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is scheduled to visit Warsaw on Friday.
– This vote of no confidence is at a special and quite symbolic moment. First of all, everything indicates that tomorrow we will find out that finally, after years of delay, after weeks of extremely intensive work, mainly by Minister Bodnar, we will hear from the representatives of the European institutions that Poland has finally unblocked funds from the NRP – informed the Prime Minister.
