Government wants to increase the farmers’ pension in 2023

20.12.2022

The Council of Ministers has adopted a draft law that changes the way in which farmers’ pension is calculated. The proposed solution will effectively lead to its actual equalisation with the pension from ZUS (the Social Insurance Institution). Farmers will also be able to receive a supplement to their farmers’ pension. It is the duty of the state to provide economic and legal security for farmers as it is them who ensure food security for our country and contribute to the development of Polandwith their hard work.

We equalise the pension entitlements of farmers with those insured with ZUS

Today, pension from KRUS (the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund) and ZUS  differ significantly. Currently, the amount of KRUS pension is determined based on the so-called basic pension. With the new solution, the method of valorisation of farmers’ pension will change by linking the amount of the basic KRUS pension to the amount of the lowest ZUS pension. If a farmer has worked for a period of  25 years, the person will be entitled to receive a farmers’ pension in the amount of the minimum pension from ZUS.

In addition, it will be possible to obtain a supplement to farmers’ pension. This will be ensured by a mechanism compensating  the payment of double and additional pension insurance contribution for:

  • conducting, in addition to agricultural activities, non-agricultural economic activity;
  • conducting agricultural activity in an agricultural holding with an area exceeding 50 ha.

As of June 2022, a solution is in place that allows farmers, who are still involved in farming, to also collect farmers’ pension. The solutions adopted by the government today are another element of achieving fairness and linking the KRUS pension to the lowest ZUS pension.

We continue to strengthen and develop Polish agriculture

- The Polish countryside is the guarantor of food security in the country. Today, we are repaying a debt of gratitude to its inhabitants - said the Prime Minister presenting new regulations on farmers’ pension adopted by the Council of Ministers.

We cooperate with organisations working for the benefit of agriculture - we listen carefully to the voice of farmers, we accept their requests, comments and demands. In the difficult times for agricultural development, we support the Polish countryside. To date:

  • we have blocked the sale of Polish land,
  • we have introduced subsidies for farmers,
  • we have introduced 0 per cent VAT on fertilisers,
  • we have provided agricultural fuel subsidies,
  • we have introduced agricultural retail trade,
  • we have led to a decrease in rural poverty and an increase in rural income.

- The purpse of all those measures  is primarily the  levelling of opportunities, increasing the tendency to stay on farms, to farm in the countryside so that the countryside does not become depopulated but is a place to live, where as many inhabitants of our homeland as possible will want to stay -  continued the Prime Minister.
