Increase in the social pension – a civic project with the support of the government
25.01.2024
Adults with disabilities will receive more support. The social pension for people who are totally unable to work due to disability will be increased to the level of the minimum wage. Such a solution is provided for in the citizens' draft amendment to the Social Pension Act. The bill was submitted to the Sejm in the previous term, but only now has it been submitted to the first reading. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed from the Sejm rostrum that the government will work hard to ensure that the regulations enter into force as soon as possible.
Currently, the social pension amounts to PLN 1588.44. The bill provides for an increase in the social pension to the level of the minimum wage. The latter is PLN 4242 gross from 1 January 2024, and PLN 4300 gross from 1 July. This means that the social pension will increase by more than PLN 2.7 thousand gross.
We will work hard to make the bill a reality
The citizens' draft amendments to the Social Pension Act were submitted to the Sejm of the previous term in March 2023. However, it was not considered at the time. That is why the Sejm of the current term referred it to the first reading.
Parents of people with disabilities are not the weakest social group. This is the strongest social group
– assured the Prime Minister today from the Sejm rostrum.
Donald Tusk's government fully supports the proposed change.
Thanks to you, dear caregivers, dear parents of the disabled, Poland is a little better. Thanks to you, what is happening in Poland is more beautiful. Once again, thank you very, very much. And I promise – just as we stood by you when the authorities were turning their backs on you, we will work hard and diligently to make this law, which you have been waiting for, become a fact as soon as possible
– said Donald Tusk.
Respect and support for those most in need
During his speech in the Sejm, the Prime Minister spoke about the essence of public activity that guides the current government.
It is worth getting involved in public life in order to live to see a moment like today, when I see such an authentic smile of happiness on faces that rarely have a smile on them. That those who are the weakest, the victims, who have so often been despised by the authorities, have their time and their day today
– said the head of the government in the Sejm.
