17.03.2023
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki met with President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel. This is his first official visit to Poland after the Czech President took office. The leaders' meeting was an opportunity to discuss current issues concerning bilateral and regional cooperation. The leaders also addressed military and energy security issues, primarily the challenges of the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine. Strong support from all EU countries to ensure the security of Ukraine and Europe as a whole is crucial.
Polish-Czech relations are probably the best in a thousand years
The leaders' meeting was largely devoted to current bilateral issues. Joint infrastructure projects were discussed, including those related to energy. By implementing them, we can increase our capabilities and competitiveness. The head of the Polish government also thanked President Pavel for the Czech commitment to security in our region.
“I am not sure if there has ever been a better time in our 1000-year history of Polish-Czech relations," concluded Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
The Czech President's visit to Poland is his second foreign visit since taking office, following his visit to the Slovak Republic. This is an important signal of the importance of our neighbourly bilateral relations and the cooperation of our countries in the region and in Europe.
Regional cooperation is a format in which we are stronger together
“I am extremely happy that at the level of the European Council, at the level of NATO, the Czech Republic and Poland are always mentioned side by side – together we are stronger, because in this case one plus one equals three," stressed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
Poland and the Czech Republic often cooperate internationally. We share many issues and represent the common voice of Central Europe. We are pleased that our region is very cohesive and active on key European issues – we look forward to further intensive cooperation with countries close to us, including the Czech Republic.
Russian aggression against Ukraine continues and the fight for freedom requires our commitment
Poland and the Czech Republic are aware that Russian aggression against Ukraine continues and has consequences that are felt worldwide. We are facing this challenge by strengthening the security of our region and supporting Ukraine in its fight for freedom. Our countries have a clear position on this issue.
“It is wonderful to host a representative of a country that thinks like us in the light of all the challenges we are facing, especially in the light of Russian aggression in Ukraine, as well as the consequences of this conflict – inflation, the energy crisis, but also the macroeconomic crisis that surrounds us," noted Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
The head of the Polish government agreed with the Czech president that our countries should have a leading role in the reconstruction of Ukraine following the destruction of the war, as well as in supporting it on its path to EU and NATO accession.
