Minister Michał Dworczyk: Large hub for humanitarian aid will be opened near Lublin on Monday

26.02.2022

In response to the growing need to help the victims of the conflict in Ukraine, the Polish government have decided to prepare a programme to distribute necessary resources to help those in need. These actions include the establishment of a special hub of material resources and a hospital train to transport the wounded and to provide humanitarian aid. Thanks to the activities coordinated by the Governmental Agency for Strategic Reserves (RARS), interested entities, NGOs and individuals will be able to provide assistance to those who need it most.

One of our key activities is to help the victims of Russia's attack on Ukraine. It is a response to human needs and tragedies occurring every day of the conflict.

‘We will do everything we can to help those Ukrainians who are heroically defending their homeland and those who have to flee from the war,’ assured Minister Michał Dworczyk in Przemyśl.

Special hospital train

In agreement with the ministry of health, the ministry of the interior and administration, and the ministry of infrastructure, and in cooperation with PKP and other state institutions, we have prepared the possibility of collecting the wounded from Ukraine. The train that is specially adapted for this purpose will serve two functions: to provide medical transportation and possibly to transport the injured, and to provide humanitarian aid. The said aid will reach Lviv Oblast (region) today.

‘If necessary, the Polish hospital train will go to Mostyska, namely it will enter the territory of Ukraine. The wounded transported there earlier will be brought back to Warsaw, where they will be transferred at one of the railway stations to the National Hospital, which was adapted for this purpose. After evaluating their condition at the National Hospital, the wounded will be transported to specialist hospitals,’ explained the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

Humanitarian aid with a special hub in Lublin

A base for humanitarian aid, run by the Governmental Agency for Strategic Reserves (RARS) is established near Lublin. All aid for Ukraine will be brought there and then transferred directly to Mostyska, where there are currently many people in need of help. In addition, in agreement with the Ukrainian authorities, aid will be transported to Lviv Oblast (region).

‘This is aid from entities that in recent days have volunteered to provide humanitarian assistance to specific cities and regions in Ukraine invaded by the Russian Federation,’ emphasized the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. He also added: We know that the situation is very dynamic. What is possible today, e.g., transporting humanitarian aid to a given place, may not be possible tomorrow.

Declarations of support for Ukraine are expressed all over Poland. On Monday, detailed information will be provided to all those interested in providing assistance, including companies, NGOs, parishes, and individuals.

‘For several days now, there has been a huge surge of solidarity among the Poles. This is remarkable,’ concluded Minister Michał Dworczyk.
