18.10.2024 BrusselsEuropean Council addresses migration unanimouslyDuring the October European Council Summit in Brussels, Prime Minister Donald Tusk presented the Polish perspective on migration. Facing the growing challenges along the eastern border of the EU, the leaders expressed solidarity with Poland. The European Council unanimously adopted conclusions on migration, which read that no country, including Russia and Belarus, can abuse values such as the right to asylum. Poland is cleared to make independent decisions on that matter.

14.10.2024 Orzysz“Shield East” - an investment in peace and securityThe programme is intended to strengthen Poland's eastern border and ensure security. Prime Minister Donald Tusk took part in an exercise aimed at testing the elements of “Shield East” at the Infantry Field Training Centre in Orzysz. The implementation of the programme has been accelerated - key elements of the fortifications will appear this year. More than 10 billion PLN will be earmarked for the implementation of the Shield East programme.

09.10.2024 CzechConsultations of the Polish and Czech governmentsThe 9th Polish-Czech Intergovernmental Consultations took place in Prague. The session was chaired by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his Czech counterpart, Petr Fiala. We share many common interests and have a similar outlook on issues such as the role of Europe, aid to Ukraine, security and crisis response. Poland and the Czech Republic also share their stance on irregular immigration to the European Union. Prime Minister Donald Tusk was joined by 14 members of the Council of Ministers.

The heads of the State Fire Service, Police and the General Staff were also invited to attend the first part of the meeting, which was intended to be a briefing. During the second part, the Council of Ministers adopted amendments to the 2025 draft budget bill, which will provide funds for the restoration of flooded areas.

The status of the embankments, which have to withstand the pressure of the flood surge, still requires particular attention. Clean-up efforts and preparations for rebuilding are underway in the flooded areas. The government is asking local authorities and services to report their needs quickly and precisely. Poland is also receiving words of support and commendations for the efforts of the Polish Armed Forces from international partners.

The ministers involved in the relief efforts also presented their reports. The last few days have seen numerous emergency meetings, encounters with affected residents in flooded areas, as well as development of solutions and measures aiding the disaster relief and recovery. One thing is certain - thanks to the actions of the authorities, residents and volunteers, a bigger disaster was averted.
