13.08.2024 WarsawPiotr Serafin - our candidate for the Polish Commissioner in the EUDuring its Tuesday meeting, the Council of Ministers unanimously approved the candidacy of Piotr Serafin for the seat in the European Commission. It also adopted a resolution on the Rare Disease Strategy for 2024-2025. The Council of Ministers was also briefed on the work of the Investigative Committee for Russian and Belarusian Influences.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of Sport and Tourism Sławomir Nitras met with athletes who returned to Poland after the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris. Polish athletes brought home a total of 10 Olympic medals: 1 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze. The Prime Minister thanked the athletes for representing Poland at the Games and congratulated them on their success.

09.08.2024 WarsawUncovering the Scheme - holding previous government accountable for their abusesAs a result of the audits to date, 62 people are facing charges, with 149 notices of possible criminal offences submitted to the public prosecutor's office. During today’s press conference, Prime Minister Donald Tusk outlined the progress of the audits and ensuring the accountability of the previous government. The National Tax Administration is currently auditing 90 entities, involving a total amount of 100 billion PLN. The United Right government managed to build a comprehensive fraud scheme, which is currently being analysed and picked apart by an independent judiciary, with view of recovering the misappropriated funds. The relevant agreements were already signed.

The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of remembrance and made a pledge to the insurgents and all Poles.

All the people, regardless of their views and background, remember and respect the heroism of the young people of Warsaw, who took up arms and stood against a much stronger enemy. Prime Minister Donald Tusk started the commemoration events with a visit to the Warsaw Rising Museum, where he announced the decision to provide 100 million PLN for its expansion.

The draft law is intended to ensure financial support for the elderly citizens who have lost a spouse and have to deal with difficult financial situation as a result.

17.07.2024 LondonChatham House 'Person of the Year' Award for Prime Minister Donald TuskThe Chatham House Royal Institute of International Affairs recognised Donald Tusk with a prestigious award for his efforts to restore democracy and rule of law. Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski received the award on behalf of the Polish Prime Minister. Donald Tusk will travel to London tomorrow, 18 July, to meet the new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and to attend the European Political Community Summit.

12.07.2024 WarsawMilitary Counterintelligence Service allegations against former ambassador to NATOPrime Minister Donald Tusk announced that before 2023, the Military Counterintelligence Service had accused Tomasz Szatkowski, the then ambassador to NATO, of improper handling of classified documents, contacts with foreign intelligence services and bribery. In addition, the Counterintelligence Service concealed this information from the Internal Security Agency. President Andrzej Duda was allegedly aware of these events.

10.07.2024 WarsawMedia freedom and independence is more than a mere catchphraseThe “Dialog” Centre for Social Partnership hosted a roundtable with representatives of the media on changes to copyright law at the initiative of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Speaker of the Senate Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska took part in the meeting, which was devoted to the amendment of the law implementing the EU DSM (Digital Single Market) Directive. Mr. Tusk expressed his belief that the media and the government need to find a common ground regarding this matter. This process will be aided by a special task force, which brings together representatives of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and publishers.
