On September 1, 2024, the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II was commemorated at Westerplatte. Prime Minister Donald Tusk participated in the ceremony, reminding attendees of the immense significance of Westerplatte as a symbol of resistance, courage, and sacrifice. The Prime Minister also pointed out that Poland has drawn lessons from those events to always ensure its safety, freedom, and independence.

44 years ago in Gdańsk, the August Agreements were signed. Thanks to these agreements, the first independent trade union "Solidarity" was formed, which contributed to the fall of communism in Europe. To commemorate this event, a special meeting with members of the Council of Ministers took place at the Gdańsk Town Hall. Prime Minister Donald Tusk reminded those gathered that each minister must always remember the legacy of August 1980 and more often listen to and meet with Polish women and men, explaining to them the reasons for their actions and decisions.

On the 44th anniversary of the signing of the August Agreements, Prime Minister Donald Tusk participated in Gdańsk in the solemn unveiling of a monument to the late Lech Bądkowski - a Polish and Kashubian writer, journalist, and political, cultural, and social activist. The head of the government described Lech Bądkowski as a master of patriotism, without whom there would be no "Solidarity" and no independent Poland.

The government is changing the realities of applying the law regarding the use of legal abortion up to the 12th week of pregnancy. Prime Minister Donald Tusk, together with the Minister of Health Izabela Leszczyna and the Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar, presented guidelines for prosecutors and hospitals. In this way, the government wants to ensure that the state more effectively stands on the side of women. Among other things, they clearly indicate that abortion due to a woman's mental health is permissible and that the opinion of one doctor is sufficient in this case.

Record expenditures on defense and health, benefits for citizens, economic revival, a GDP growth of 3.9%, and a decrease in unemployment – these are the main directions of fiscal policy for the next year. On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the Council of Ministers adopted the budget plan for 2025. The details were presented at a press conference by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Finance Minister Andrzej Domański.

“This is a very important day for Polish-Indian relations,” said Prime Minister Donald Tusk summarising the visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi, to Poland. The visit coincided with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations between our countries. The main objective of the meeting was to elevate Polish-Indian relations to the level of a Strategic Partnership.

“Time will tell whether the goal we are aiming for is attainable, but we are being serious about it,” said Prime Minister Donald Tusk said about Poland’s bid to host the Olympic Games during his visit to the Orlik field in Karczew near Warsaw. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Sport and Tourism announced that additional Orlik fields would be built, and that the Active School programme will be continued to stimulate the physical activity of children and youth. We are also facing the need to resolve the issues plaguing professional sports in Poland, including funding transparency.

104 years ago, Polish soldiers won the heroic Battle of Warsaw against the Bolshevik forces. The event has been widely considered to be one of the most important battles in the history of the world. To commemorate the victory, 15 August was named the Polish Army Day. To mark the occasion, Prime Minister Donald Tusk participated in an official military parade along the Wisłostrada in Warsaw. As he stated, thanks to our joint efforts, we are building one of the most modern defence forces in the world.

During its Tuesday meeting, the Council of Ministers unanimously approved the candidacy of Piotr Serafin for the seat in the European Commission. It also adopted a resolution on the Rare Disease Strategy for 2024-2025. The Council of Ministers was also briefed on the work of the Investigative Committee for Russian and Belarusian Influences.
