Over PLN 290 billion for new roads under the National Road Construction Programme

13.12.2022

Every year in Poland we build more roads which increase the safety and comfort of living and travelling. A responsible policy involves taking care of the continuous development of the whole country. In recent years, we have built a total of more than 2,000 km of new expressways, motorways and ring roads. It is not only the connections to the big cities that we are committed to developing but also the creation and improvement of numerous municipal and county roads. Since the very beginning, the development of road infrastructure throughout Poland has been one of the priorities of our government. Today, the Council of Ministers has adopted another solution – the Government’s National Road Construction Programme with a perspective until 2023. This means that around 2,500 km of new motorway and expressway sections will be built in our country.

8,000 km of modern roads

National roads connect the country's major urban centres and provide easy access to local roads. Investment that ensures fast, safe and comfortable travel is the basis for further development. The Government's National Road Construction Programme, adopted by the Council of Ministers in December 2022, includes the construction of approximately 2,500 km of new roads – motorways and expressways. By 2033, more than PLN 290 billion will have been invested in the Programme. Ultimately, we will create a network of over 8,000 km of modern roads which will be used by future generations of Poles.

“This is the largest national programme for the construction of expressways and motorways in Poland's history. It involves over PLN 294 billion guaranteed in our budget,” highlighted Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The programme will also strengthen the mechanisms of economic growth and the creation of new jobs. It is a very strong economic and pro-social stimulus for all Poles.

As part of the construction of major arterial roads, we are planning, inter alia, the construction of the following sections:

  • S5 expressway: the Sobótka (S8) – Świdnica – Bolków (S3) section,
  • S6 expressway: the Western Bypass of Szczecin,
  • S8 expressway: the Boboszów (state border) – Kłodzko – Wrocław (Magnice) section,
  • S16 expressway: the S61 (Ełk) – S19 (Białystok) section,
  • the Warsaw Agglomeration Ring Road along the A50 motorway and the S50 expressway,
  • S12 expressway: the S74 (Kozenin) – S8 (Łódź Południe) section.

Connecting every corner of Poland – the key to sustainable development

We are making new investments under one motto – sustainable development. Development that provides opportunities for better jobs and faster economic growth – also in rural areas, smaller county towns and provincial cities. This is the infrastructural backbone which we are building and which is working well.

The National Road Development Programme is just one of the many programmes that we implement. We also support the development of local roads. Those are created, for example, as part of the Government’s Local Investment Fund or the Government’s Strategic Investment Programme. In this way, the benefits of all investments in the field of infrastructure policy are felt by everyone – regardless of where exactly they live.
