16.02.2022

In the last two years alone, the Government Road Construction Fund has allowed completing 14,000 km of road investment projects supported by nearly PLN 10 billion worth of funding. This means an improvement in road safety and a systematic increase in the attractiveness of more areas for new investments. Today, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced the results of another call for municipalities and districts across Poland. In total, this translates into PLN 2.7 billion funds for building new and renovating existing local roads with a total length of 3.9 thousand km. The support for local self-governments' activities will enable the creation of a coherent and integrated road transport system throughout the country.

New road investment projects in municipalities and districts co-funded by the GRCF

In 2022, financial support from the Government Road Construction Fund will be allocated for, among other things, municipal and district roads. The maximum value of funding for a single project will amount to as much as 80% of the cost of its implementation – up to PLN 30 million. In reality, this means that nearly 100 investments in each voivodeship will be co-financed.

"We want to rebuild and modernise the entire road system in Poland to make centres of districts and municipalities easily accessible," emphasised Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. "Our credibility and the feasibility of our announcements constitute very important features of our road and communication policy," he added. Communication and roads are the basis for establishing new companies and jobs, as well as attracting new business.

The total value of GRCF funds allocated for the construction, reconstruction or renovation of district and municipal roads in 2022 amounts to PLN 2.73 billion.

With the Fund’s support, over 3.8 thousand km of roads will be built or modernised, including more than:

  • 1.95 thousand km of district roads,
  • 1.85 thousand km of municipal roads.

This represents nearly 2,328 tasks, including 630 district tasks and as many as 1,698 municipal ones.

"We will develop our roads programme. Just as we fixed the tax system, we will also fix the road system we inherited. You can see how the Polish roads are changing. They will continue to improve," concluded the head of government.

National Road Construction Programme

Despite difficulties related to the pandemic, in 2021, 37 road sections with a total length of 425 km were opened across the country.

These investments have already provided drivers with 4,624.9 km of express roads, including:

    • 1,753.6 km of motorways,
    • 2,871.3 km of expressways.

The national investment projects to be implemented in 2022 will allow closing and completing other important road routes and connections with 345 km of new national roads, including:
