Together for Ukraine

Two years have passed since Russia's brutal aggression against Ukraine. Both Poland and Canada actively support Ukrainians in their fight for freedom and independence.

- On Saturday I was in Ukraine to commemorate the second anniversary of Putin's invasion of the country in this way. (...) All this to show that we support Ukraine together on the way to defending freedom, culture, language and democratic values and the rule of law, said the Prime Minister of Canada.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed that Ukraine needs further help in its war
with Russia.

- All Western countries should act more decisively. We have at least a few options to increase the pressure on Russia in a very significant way, stressed the head of the Polish government.

Russian money in Western banks should work for Ukraine

One of the topics discussed by the Prime Ministers was the issue of Russian assets, which are frozen in banks of many countries around the world.

- There is currently a discussion in Europe and other countries about how to use these funds for Ukraine, for its reconstruction. We will work with the Prime Minister, with our friends in Europe, in the United States, in Japan, to make a decision to use these funds for Ukraine and against Russian aggression, said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

It is about up to $300 billion that could support Ukraine, also in its defense against Russian aggression.

Poland can support the export of Ukrainian grain to countries in need

Prime Minister Donald Tusk referred to the ongoing protests of farmers across the country. The head of the government pointed out that in this way they are defending their interests. At the same time, the Prime Minister stressed that Poland is ready to participate in the process of exporting Ukrainian grain to countries most in need.

- We talked about how Canada and Poland could radically increase the possibilities of exporting Ukrainian grain to starving and needy countries. (...) Poland is ready to actively participate and co-finance such activities, which could be a great relief for Polish and European farmers, for Ukraine and for those who are waiting for cheap food in other regions of the world. We will have something to work on together – said the Polish Prime Minister.

Polish and Canadian cooperation in the nuclear energy sector

Work is underway on the construction of Poland's first nuclear power plant. The Prime Ministers of Polish and Canada discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the field of this key investment for our country.

-We have talked a lot about trade relations between Poland and Canada. This contributes to the creation of jobs in our countries. This includes cooperation on clean energy. We know that many European economies at the moment want to become independent of these fossil fuels that come from Russia. This is where Canada really stands ready to lend a hand. And as it has been said, among other things, in the nuclear energy sector, to ensure our security in this uncertain world, said the Prime Minister of Canada.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk added that one of the topics of the talks was cooperation when it comes to the so-called small reactors – SMRs.

- Here, Canada is a world leader and that sounds very promising – the opportunity to work together on this energy model. Poland is very interested in this, said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
