Poland and Norway Strengthen Strategic and Military Partnership

23.02.2026

"We, Poles, know how important it is to tighten ties when it comes to defence cooperation and security in the northern and north-eastern dimension of Europe,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk said after meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. The heads of government discussed further strengthening strategic relations between their countries, particularly in industrial and defence cooperation, which is already very strong. The meeting also confirmed that Poland and Norway share converging views on the current geopolitical situation and a common vision for regional security. The talks took place at the Dęba-Lipa Land Forces Training Centre, where Polish-Norwegian military cooperation is implemented in practice and Ukrainian soldiers undergo training.

Camp Jomsborg - The Practical Dimension of the Alliance

Prime Minister Donald Tusk met today with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, at the Land Forces Training Centre, Camp Jomsborg.

“This training ground is a symbol of cooperation in a new format, which we have been working on for many months. We, Poles, know how crucial it is to strengthen defence cooperation on NATO’s eastern and northern flank,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a press conference.

Located at the Dęba–Lipa Land Forces Training Centre is Camp Jomsborg, a training facility established by the Norwegian Armed Forces as part of an international initiative to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is here that Ukrainian soldiers are trained and direct assistance is provided to Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression.

“I would like to personally thank you, the Polish government, for making this area available for Nordic-Baltic activities, for providing the training centre to train those soldiers who defend democracy, freedom, and territorial integrity,” Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said, addressing the Polish head of government.

One of today’s key topics was regional security, including continued coordination of support for Ukraine and strengthening NATO cooperation in the current geopolitical environment.

Bilateral Cooperation and a Shared Vision of a Secure Europe

Poland and Norway jointly support Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. The positions of both countries on rearming Europe and NATO member states, as well as on the benefits of military and industrial cooperation, are aligned.

Joint projects implemented by both countries are also of great importance.

“We have recently spoken a great deal about Poland’s missile defence system and the SAN anti-drone system. We are doing this together with our Norwegian friends. This is not the first undertaking where Norwegian companies and Norwegian technology cooperate with Polish firms and the defence industry for our security. We will continue this,” the Prime Minister said.

On 30 January this year, a consortium was established comprising the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) and the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. The consortium is responsible for building the system, delivering 18 battery modules of air defence systems capable of countering unmanned aerial systems.

“Poland and Norway cooperate without any friction. I do not believe there is another country with which Norway has grown closer over the past four years than Poland, strategically, politically, and in terms of shared values,” said the Norwegian Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that Poland and Norway will intensify efforts to deepen bilateral relations, including in the field of security.

“Poland is finalising work on a new treaty with the United Kingdom. We have signed a treaty with France, and we are working on deepening our agreement with Germany. It is very important that we immediately begin work on deepening, also formally, our cooperation between Poland and Norway,” the Polish Prime Minister stated.

The Norwegian leader shares this view.

“I am pleased that today we agreed to move forward with intensive work to structure and formalise our strategic cooperation. I am glad that together with my government teams and with you, we will advance this cooperation,” assured Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

This process will be finalised swiftly, and its implementation begins today.
