Poland on Track to Become Europe’s Deregulation Leader

11.02.2025

The economic shift announced during the event “Poland. A Year of Breakthrough” will require full government commitment. Before today’s Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced further steps in the process of accelerating deregulation, including a meeting of a team led by entrepreneur Rafał Brzoska and further discussions with scientists. The government is also closely monitoring the issue of U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminium, preparing for possible scenarios and working on a unified European response.

Poland: A Leader in Deregulation

Deregulation remains one of the government's priorities. Work in this area has accelerated following the decision to introduce a new framework for government-business cooperation, which Prime Minister Donald Tusk presented during yesterday’s “Poland. A Year of Breakthrough” event at the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

"On Friday, I will meet for the first time with the team that will work on behalf of entrepreneurs and managers, led by Mr. Rafał Brzoska, who has agreed to take on my proposal," the Prime Minister announced.

Meanwhile, ministers are reviewing deregulation measures that have already been developed within their respective ministries.

"I ask all ministries to submit for my review what they consider deregulation initiatives. We will aim to turn this into a stream of fast, coordinated, and – I am sure – bolder actions than before," the Prime Minister stated.

Poland’s success in deregulation could serve as an inspiration for Europe in implementing long-awaited reforms for businesses.

"If we want Europe to effectively deregulate, we must start with ourselves. All of Europe is watching us, so let’s show that we are also ready to make recommendations regarding European law. I am convinced that Poland’s presidency will be remembered as historic, also because we will give the right momentum to deregulation," Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized.

The Prime Minister also announced another meeting with scientists who have proposed a deregulation package within their area of expertise.

A Unified European Response to U.S. Tariffs

Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed the issue of tariffs imposed by the President of the United States on European steel and aluminium exports. Minister of Development and Technology Krzysztof Paszyk and Minister of Industry Marzena Czarnecka have already prepared preliminary reports, which will serve as the basis for analyzing the potential consequences of the tariffs for Poland.

"We are not major exporters of steel or aluminium to the United States, so the numbers are not alarming. [...] Poland’s aluminium exports to the U.S. amount to 411 tons, whereas to other countries, it is 264,000 tons – this gives a sense of the proportions," the Prime Minister explained.

An urgent and precise analysis of the situation, to be conducted in the coming hours, will allow Poland to prepare for potential price changes in Europe and to develop a common European response to the U.S. measures.

"As Poland and as the European Union, we should respond in a balanced manner. We must do everything possible to avoid – especially among allies – unnecessary trade or tariff wars, as these always have negative consequences for producers and consumers," the Prime Minister emphasized.

Due to the strategic importance of relations with the U.S., Europe’s response will be preceded by consultations with all EU member states.

"It is crucial that the EU remains united in this situation. Difficult times require full solidarity," Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed.

During tomorrow’s EU trade ministers’ discussions, Poland’s position will be presented by the Minister of Development and Technology.
