Poland's Security Cannot Wait!

Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz observed drone and counter-drone system tests at the training ground in Zielonka, including the SAN system, 90% of which is to be financed under the SAFE programme. "We witnessed a demonstration of new skills, capabilities and technologies that will serve our security in the future,” the Prime Minister said. Modern equipment for the Polish Armed Forces will be secured thanks to the capabilities of Polish defence companies, as well as financing prepared by the government. This includes nearly 5% of the state budget allocated to defence and almost PLN 200 billion from the EU SAFE programme. The Prime Minister appealed not to waste time when it comes to Poland's security.
Poland Must Accelerate the Production of Modern Armaments
Advantage on the battlefield increasingly depends on drones, counter-drone systems, and autonomous solutions. The government intends for the vast majority of this equipment to be produced in Poland.
“It is no coincidence that we are showcasing our capabilities at the Military Institute of Armament Technology. The goal is to combine enormous financial potential, if everything proceeds well with the SAFE programme, with technical and scientific capacity, the strength of the Polish economy, and the military’s ability to utilise this potential. This quadrilateral will guarantee our security,” the Prime Minister said at the Zielonka training ground.
Poland must employ extraordinary measures due to the geopolitical situation.
“I do not need to convince anyone how uncertain the international situation has become, both in our region and globally. This is not a show or an abstraction, but preparation for a situation in which our country may have to use all available capabilities,” Donald Tusk stated.
The situation is very serious. Every opportunity to improve security must be used.
“I appeal to everyone who has any influence not to waste a single day or hour, because the need is here and now. We must fully utilise the great financial, economic, scientific and military potential that today distinguishes Poland across the continent,” the Prime Minister emphasised.
In this context, the implementation of the SAFE programme is particularly important.
“SAFE means safe. No one in Poland should even think about blocking this programme, because that would strike at the very heart of Poland’s security programmes. There is no room here for politics or partisan conflicts,” the Prime Minister appealed.
Accelerating Poland’s defence production is a necessary condition for national security.
Poland is becoming an EU leader in linking science with modern technology. The government aims for national and European funds to energise the Polish economy, particularly the defence industry and scientific research.
The World Wants to Buy Polish “Borsuks” and “Pioruns”
Through the SAFE programme, Poland may receive nearly PLN 200 billion, 80% of which would go to Polish companies, both state-owned and private. The funds will be allocated, among other purposes, to air defence and counter-drone systems.
“The scale of these projects is truly unprecedented. In the SAN defence system alone, we will have 700 vehicles at our disposal. These will be ‘Legwan’ and ‘Jelcz’ vehicles produced in Poland,” the Prime Minister informed.
Increased defence production is also an opportunity for economic growth.
“Today, global interest in Polish ‘Borsuk’ infantry fighting vehicles and ‘Piorun’ systems exceeds our current production capacity. We will pursue a ‘win-win’ strategy. This means that funds will be used not only for our security, but also for economic development,” Donald Tusk stressed.
At the same time, he announced that Poland is withdrawing from the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use, stockpiling and production of anti-personnel mines. He also stated that a modern Polish scatterable mining system, “Bluszcz,” is in its final stages of development.
A Major Boost for the Armed Forces and Full Mobilisation of the Defence Industry
Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasised that cooperation between the defence industry, science, and state administration forms the foundation of Poland’s defence capabilities.
“The SAFE programme is currently the best solution, giving a turbo boost to the capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces. In this way, we free up budgetary resources to respond to the development of our military technology,” the Minister of National Defence assessed.
The war in Ukraine has demonstrated how crucial speed and the ability to rapidly increase armaments production are. In this context, the growing capacity of Poland’s defence industry, including companies belonging to the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), is of key importance.
“Every day that Ukraine depletes the potential of the Russian Federation is time given to Poland and NATO to do their homework and strengthen their own security. We cannot waste a single hour,” Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed.
A strong, well-equipped army and an independent defence industry are the foundations of Poland’s security.
Urgent Call for Polish Citizens to Leave Iran
During his remarks at the Zielonka training ground, the Prime Minister also appealed to all Polish citizens currently in Iran to leave the country immediately. He stated that the risk of a major conflict is very real and that the situation could deteriorate dramatically in the coming hours or days. In such a scenario, conducting an evacuation could prove impossible.
“I want to make all Polish citizens who are currently in Iran, or, God forbid, planning to travel there, fully aware. I say this also on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Sikorski, who called me just before I arrived at the training ground, please leave Iran immediately and under no circumstances travel to that country,” the Prime Minister urged.
He emphasised that this warning should be treated with the utmost seriousness.
