Safeguarding the European agricultural market

For the European Union, the protection of the European agricultural market should be a priority. During a press conference after the meeting with the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Donald Tusk announced that he would address the Speaker of the Sejm with a proposal for a resolution of the Polish Sejm that would call on the European Commission to impose an embargan on Russian and Belarusian food products.

- A common European decision will be incomparably more effective than individual decisions by the countries of the region. I would like us together, as the entire European Union, to make a decision on sanctions against Russia and Belarus regarding food and agricultural products, said the head of the Polish government.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė admitted that Lithuania is analysing the decision to impose sanctions on agricultural products from Russia and Belarus.

"We will continue to work closely together on sanctions and various other solutions. Ideally, this decision should be taken at EU level. We would certainly support such a European initiative, because it is the only real option," said the head of the Lithuanian government.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk is in constant contact with European and Ukrainian leaders. One of the main tasks is to unblock the export of agricultural and food products from Ukraine to third countries that have been the traditional recipients of these products.

"We must find a solution together, which will also effectively protect the Polish and European markets against unequal competition," stressed the Prime Minister.

We are increasing security in the region

The head of the Polish government has recently held a number of meetings with leaders of other countries, where he stressed the importance of supporting Ukraine and ensuring security

- In recent days, I have hosted the Prime Ministers of Latvia, Norway, Finland and Sweden in Warsaw. Today, I have come to Vilnius to synchronise the actions of these countries as effectively and as intensively as possible," said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The talks of the heads of government in Vilnius concerned the security of our countries and the entire region. In the face of the war in Ukraine and the unstable geopolitical situation, we must work together to increase security and stability.

"Polish-Lithuanian cooperation can set a good tone and pace of cooperation between all countries in the region, especially in the context of security," said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The defence capabilities of the whole of Europe should be strengthened so that we can feel safe. Poland and Lithuania are actively supporting Ukraine and increasing their defence capabilities.

"Our attitude, our increasing defence capabilities, is important, because Lithuania and Poland have historically understood very well the context where a lack of determination or various settlements towards the aggressor may lead," stressed the Lithuanian Prime Minister.

Together we are developing Poland and Lithuania

Poland and Lithuania are implementing many projects that are being developed by both countries. The cooperation concerns, m.in, energy and transport.

- These projects will continue. There is no doubt that all projects that are important for our two countries, and especially for the entire region, were implemented as quickly and as coordinated as possible," said the head of the Lithuanian government.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk thanked for the invitation to Vilnius and stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries.

- We cooperate on many levels. I am happy to be able to pay an official state visit to Vilnius today. In the capital of our traditional friends and closest partners in the European Union," summed up the head of the Polish government.

During the visit, Prime Minister Donald Tusk also met with the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda.
