Prime Minister at Maritime Convention: we are rebuilding the value of the maritime economy and its importance for the entire Polish economy
22.05.2023
For the past six years, the Maritime Convention has brought together experts from the water management industry. Its members submit projects aimed at developing the maritime economy. We continue to develop the Polish shipbuilding and transport industry and introduce innovations. We are accelerating the construction of offshore wind farms and activating our shipbuilding industry. Coastal businesses are becoming strong players in the global economy.
Maritime Convention
It is an advisory body to the Minister of Infrastructure. The Maritime Convention is made up of water management experts who give their opinion on the direction of the ministry’s efforts to strengthen Poland’s maritime and inland waterways economy. The members accurately diagnose problems, come up with conclusions and point the way forward for the marine industry.
Multi-billion investment in the maritime economy
Since the end of 2015, we have been trying to strengthen the maritime economy. Measures are being taken to enhance ports with better sea and land access. Alongside this, multi-billion infrastructure investments are being made.
Poland – thanks to the development of the shipbuilding industry – is gaining increasing importance in international relations. Thanks to numerous investments, the ports of Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin and Świnoujście are changing at a rapid pace. We have deepened the waterway between them in the past year and renovated the railway connections.
“The massive expansion of ports in Gdańsk and Gdynia, the Red Road, the deepening of the waterway to Szczecin to 12.5 metres, the container port in Świnoujście, Baltic Pipe, the expansion of the gas terminal in Świnoujście, but also the tunnel to Świnoujście connecting this port with the rest of Poland by direct land transport. Many, many investments in smaller ports and the entire road and rail infrastructure,” Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed.
Wind farms in the Baltic Sea
In late 2024 and early 2025, the first terminal for offshore wind farms in Poland is scheduled to begin operations at the port of Świnoujście. The investment in Świnoujście will be one of the most modern in Europe. The terminal will be used to install part of the Baltic Power farm. The location of the port in Świnoujście makes it possible to handle Polish and foreign investments.
“We are expanding energy investments, which will also be a powerful flywheel of feedback here on the coast,” stressed Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki.
The farm will have a capacity of up to 1.2 GW, ultimately powering more than 1.5 million households with clean energy. It is the most advanced offshore wind power project in the Polish Baltic Sea.
