Prime Minister at the border with Belarus: today, despite all the threats appearing around us, Poland is becoming more and more secure

05.09.2022

The government's goal is to ensure the safety of Poland and the Polish people. On the Polish-Belarusian border, which is also the eastern border of the European Union, a physical barrier has been created. It was the actions of the Belarusian regime that caused the construction of the wall. Alexander Lukashenko, wanted to destabilize the situation in our region with illegal migration. The 186 km barrier makes it difficult to cross the border illegally and provides time for the Border Guard to react.

– To us, the safety of Poland, the safety of the Polish people, is our fundamental aim, and here is the best proof of it, and also the best proof of our effectiveness – said the Head of the Polish Government.

Technical barrier at the EU's eastern border

Along the border with Belarus, a wall about 186 km in length has been built. The protective struture measures 5.5 metres in height and is made of steel panels. In total, PLN 1.6 billion was earmarked for the construction of the wall. Electronic systems, i.e. motion sensors and cameras, will enable the barrier to work to its full potential.

"Along the entire land border with Belarus – over a distance of about 186 km – we have built this physical wall. On an even longer section – over 210 km – this wall will be supplemented by super-advanced electronic and optical devices that will enable us to catch all kinds of irregularities and unauthorised attempts to cross the border – said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

The wall makes it more difficult for illegal migrants

Ensuring internal and external security is in the interest of the Polish state. The wall is an expression of our effectiveness and proof of our responsibility. The implementation of the investment has resulted in a significant reduction in the number of recorded incidents of migration pressure.

”The Polish-Belarusian border is currently one of the European Union’s best guarded borders, and cases of this border being crossed illegally occur very rarely; they are isolated cases”, emphasised the Prime Minister.
