Prime Minister at the Vision for Development Forum: our priority is a strong, crisis-proof economy
19.06.2023
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki inaugurated the 6th Vision for Development Forum. It is the largest economic event in northern Poland. During the two-day meeting, scientists, entrepreneurs, financiers and journalists will discuss the most important economic and political issues in Poland. The head of government stressed that taking care of economic development and a balanced budget makes it possible to manage finances for the benefit of Poles. As a result, more money can be allocated to social programmes, anti-crisis shields, and investments.
Quality of economic development – a key factor in a country's success on the international stage
The Prime Minister stressed that we are well on the way to breaking out of the circle of mid-development economies. Several conditions need to be met for this to happen. These include investments in modern technology, security, social programmes, and helping entrepreneurs.
“This incredible opportunity must not be squandered. For this to happen, we need security. This is that basis, that foundation. This is why we are investing so much in security today," he continued.
The economy also needs a boost of innovation, he added, which will enable Poland and Polish companies to lead the way. For the first time in history, our country has a chance to not only be part of the great global process of digital transformation, but also to benefit immensely from it.
New investments – economic development of Poland
Poland is a friendly country for large international companies, as well as for medium-sized and smaller Polish and foreign companies that would like to rebuild their supply or production chains. We are a safe country which, through the mechanism of the special economic zone, creates optimal conditions for investors to develop their business. It is a good model for economic development, modern technologies, skilled workers and rapid economic growth. It also benefits Polish workers in the form of higher wages, increased competitiveness and new jobs.
Thanks to the appropriate policy of our government, foreign companies are keen to invest in Poland. The American company Intel, which manufactures, among other things, processors and server products, will open a state-of-the-art Semiconductor Integration and Testing Facility near Wrocław.
“A few days ago I had the pleasure of opening the largest, most important foreign investment ever located in Poland. It is Intel's investment. Above all, it is an investment in microprocessors, semiconductors, integrated circuits, which are the oil of the 21st century, the fundamental factor determining the quality of economic development," the Prime Minister recalled.
Quality in public finance management
“Eurostat data has recently shown that Poland is among the three European Union countries with the lowest level of poverty according to the indicator presented there. But at the same time with tremendous development dynamics," said the Prime Minister.
Despite crises such as the pandemic, Russia's attack on Ukraine, and the economic consequences of these events, revenues to the state budget from personal income tax (PIT) and corporate income tax (CIT) are increasing. This is possible thanks to the effective fight against VAT fraud and tightening of the tax system.
The head of government pointed out that the quality of public finance management affects the lives of all citizens: social policies, defense procurement capabilities, development programmes, support for local governments, infrastructure programmes, as well as increased spending on health care.
Vision for Development Forum - forging visions and directions for the development of the Polish economy
This is the sixth edition of the Forum, scheduled for 19-20.06.2023 at the Naval Academy in Gdynia. Participants in the Forum will address the most important challenges facing the Polish economy, including the maritime economy, innovation and health.
