12.01.2024

Prime Minister Donald Tusk gave his first TV interview after being sworn into government. In the conversation with the hosts, he touched on current political issues, as well as important programme solutions. The Prime Minister referred, among other things, to the election proclamations concerning restoring the rule of law, changes in the public media and regulations on abortion. At the same time, this was the Prime Minister's first interview for the three major news channels: TVP Info, TVN24 and Polsat News.

Restoring the Rule of Law

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has repeatedly stressed that it is extremely important for Poland to be a state under the rule of law again. This involves rebuilding the independence of institutions such as the courts or the prosecutor's office, but also carrying out tasks within the limits imposed by the law, independently of politicians.

Cooperation With the President

Next week, the Prime Minister will meet with President Andrzej Duda. In the interview, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that among the topics to be discussed during the meeting will be Polish security, including the situation of Ukraine and support for it. Other foreign policy issues are also important – including at the level of the European Union.

Public Media

Public media are a public asset and deserve support. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has encouraged the joint creation of a law on public media that will make them really work for all Poles. It is important that the change in public media is founded on the rules of law. At the same time, he assessed the reordering of the public media as very effective.

State-owned Companies

There will be competitive tendering in all state-owned companies. The Prime Minister announced that he would ensure a transparent change process based on clear rules. He stressed the important role of the state in key areas such as energy and industry.

Women's Rights

We are working towards a radical change in the practice in Polish hospitals. Doctors should be aware of their responsibility for women's safety. A draft is already ready, which will allow access to the so-called morning-after pill. At the same time, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that he will not abandon the draft on abortion up to the 12th week.

Relations with Ukraine

Ukraine in its war with Russia needs the help of Poland and the whole free world. As long as Ukraine is fighting Russia, we are relatively safe. Our task is to stand against discouragement when it comes to helping Ukraine. The Prime Minister announced intensive cooperation to support our neighbour both with the President and in the international forum.
