In Bucharest m.in on changes to the Green Deal

Another European capital visited by Prime Minister Donald Tusk is Bucharest. The head of the Polish government in Romania will meet with the Prime Minister and the President of this country. He will also take part in the Congress of the European People's Party.

"In Bucharest, there will be an opportunity to speak and talk one-on-one with the people I work with in connection with the Green Deal and the inconveniences that fall on European farmers, including Polish ones. I will talk, m.in, with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as well as with Valdis Dombrovskis, the commissioner responsible for m.in issues related to trade with Ukraine," said Donald Tusk during a press conference before his flight to Bucharest.

The Prime Minister stressed that Poland wants to help fighting Ukraine, but at the same time we must remember about the Polish and European markets.

– I will talk about the need for changes that will protect the European and Polish market. By changes, we mean the need to return to the rules that were in place in trade with Ukraine and other third countries before the outbreak of the war. We really want to help Ukraine, but at the same time we must protect the European and Polish agricultural market, the producers' market and the basic interests of our farmers," said the head of government.

The Green Deal is the result of the actions of the previous government

Prime Minister Donald Tusk reminded that the provisions of the Green Deal had been accepted by the previous government, and the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, assured that they would not be a burden for farmers.

"I am in constant contact with Brussels. I'd love for no one to burn this work, because we're close to the finish line. I appeal, first of all, to Commissioner Wojciechowski, who has been passive, not to say detrimental, to this cause over the long months. It would be good if now, when we are perhaps finalizing these activities, he would not spoil anything," said the head of the Polish government.

The Prime Minister will meet again with farmers' representatives

On Saturday, 9 March, another meeting of Prime Minister Donald Tusk with representatives of farmers is planned.

"We are of the opinion that only an open dialogue will allow us to jointly solve the problems of the Polish countryside," admitted Donald Tusk.

Determination and numerous talks with the leaders of European institutions and countries are bearing fruit. The head of the government announced that at the Saturday meeting he would present farmers with specific information on the Green Deal.

"It is very important to me to bring to the end what is possible with the Green Deal. I am convinced that on Saturday at the meeting with farmers I will have something serious to communicate when it comes to the Green Deal. Among other things, issues related to fallow regulations. But I do not want to get ahead of the facts," said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

During the press conference, Prime Minister Donald Tusk also referred to the farmers' protest that took place on Tuesday, 6 March, in the capital. The head of the government stressed that his active efforts to improve the situation of farmers are independent of the protests.

"I'm doing it independently and not because of the protests. (...) Everyone saw what was happening in Warsaw. There were protesting farmers, there were also Solidarity activists, and there were also people who, for political or other reasons, committed acts of violence against law enforcement. We will work to solve farmers' problems. Regardless of who is protesting and how," said the Prime Minister.

Women have the right to make decisions about their health and life

Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the date of the debate on issues related to abortion will not affect his and the Civic Coalition's position on this issue.

"I understand the irritation and even rage of women who don't want a few guys to start debating again whether they have the right to something or not. Therefore, I can only assure you that nothing will change in my position and that of the Civic Coalition. We have tabled, and will continue to propose, the adoption of this bill, which speaks of the right of women to decide about their health and their lives, and therefore the right to legal, safe abortion when their health and well-being require it. A woman must have a decisive voice here, announced the head of the government.

The head of the government added that he is in talks with the Minister of Health and the Minister of Justice and actions have already been taken that are possible to implement regardless of the proceeding of the laws.

"At the moment, I do not have a majority that guarantees the quick introduction of these changes, but in practice, under this law, a lot can be changed and we will do it. At the moment, we are changing the attitude of doctors and prosecutors to the issue of legal and safe abortion, when it is absolutely required by the woman's health. Relevant instructions have already been formulated and addressed to the medical and legal communities, said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister pointed out that doctors, prosecutors and patients must know that today the law in Poland imperfectly protects women and requires the state, including doctors and prosecutors, to respect the principle that women's health is the most important.
