Prime Minister: energy is a top-priority matter for us at the moment

12.07.2022

The Head of the Polish government attended a meeting with the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The main issues discussed were matters related to the energy technology, renewable energy sources, as well as the current geopolitical events. The Russian aggression on the sovereign Ukraine has made the energy market situation unstable.

Main conversation topics

At the moment, one of the biggest threats in Europe is the Russian aggression against  the independent Ukraine. The war has changed the energy market in many ways. The EU sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation have brought about a significant increase in prices. By blocking the funding alone, we can stop Putin’s war machine.

– I am truly glad because our transatlantic relations - also between Poland and the US – are of great importance to us – stressed the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Becoming independent from Russian resources

Right at the end April, the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki asserted we are not dependent on the Russian energy resources. Poland does not import coal or natural gas from the territory of the Russian Federation anymore.

A Norwegian gas pipeline will be opened in the last quarter of this year, which will help us increase our blue fuel reserves.

The Świnoujście LNG terminal has already received dozens of gas deliveries this year. This material also comes from the United States -  an active participant in the process of us becoming independent from Russia.

– Energy is, at the moment, the top-priority issue and not only for us – for everybody, also at the European Union level  - said the Head of the Polish government . He also added: - I am certain that we have a lot of common interests as the US and Poland.

Green transition

We are taking serious steps to facilitate the energy transformation. By introducing the Clean Air Plus programme, we are granting subsidies for replacing heat sources and thermo-modernisation of houses of up to several tens of thousands of zlotys. Many Polish households opt for PV system installations. There are also plans underway to promote heat pumps, which will increase the savings of Poles. We are constantly modernising the power grid in Poland. Thanks to this, we will be able to avoid power blackouts in the farthest corners of our country.
