18.07.2022
There is nothing more important for the Government than ensuring the health and safety of Poles. Therefore, we are constantly striving to improve the health care system. This will be possible through consistent increases in funding. In 2019, for the first time ever, public expenditure on health care exceeded PLN 100 billion. In the next 5 years, health expenditure will increase to 7 per cent of GDP. It will reach 6 per cent of GDP already in 2023. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki met with the members of an Amazon Women Association in the National Research Institute of Oncology in Gliwice. He talked about the National Oncology Strategy for 2020-2030, for which we will allocate PLN 5.1 billion.
National Oncology Strategy for 2020-2030 – an improvement of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer
This is a comprehensive programme for the fight against cancer, eagerly awaited by doctors and patients. The NOS identifies 5 key areas towards improving the effectiveness of oncological therapy and adapting system solutions to the needs of patients with cancer.
The objectives of the Strategy include:
- improving prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer,
- developing the healthcare system in the field of oncology by focusing activities on the patients and their needs, with particular focus on improving the quality of life for patients and their families,
- ensuring equal access to high quality healthcare services in the field of oncology, provided in accordance with up-to-date medical knowledge.
“As the Government, we allocate an increasing amount of funds for the treatment of all oncological diseases. We put great emphasis on the treatment of breast cancer. Prevention is of utmost importance here. We will consider quickly lowering the age of women at which prevention begins. We hope it can be started as early as possible,” announced the Prime Minister.
The strategy has secured funding from the state budget. In the years 2020-2030, we plan to allocate PLN 5.1 billion for this purpose.
Unique increase in health expenditure – over PLN 100 billion in 2019
In 2019, for the first time ever, public expenditure on health care exceeded PLN 100 billion. A dynamic increase in funds has been observed since 2016. In the years 2016-2020, the increase for health care was over 44 per cent.
“In cancer treatment, equipment and the latest reimbursable drugs are very important. This is the responsibility of the state. We strive to improve this in all institutions and hospital departments which fight for patients' lives,” said the prime Minister.
The Oncology Centre in Gliwice
Ever since its establishment, the Oncology Centre in Gliwice not only treated patients but also conducted scientific research on cancer. In the early 1980s, extension works began at the facility. The year 2001 can be regarded as the new opening of the clinical and therapeutic activity of the Institute.
Today, the facility has opened a Clinical Research Support Centre. It was created thanks to the initiative and funding from the state budget. The unit’s task will be comprehensive implementation of commercial and non-commercial clinical trials.
