Increased funding for healthcare and an increase in the number of doctors and nurses

“We are fully aware that healthcare is one sphere of our lives which requires significant resources and much attention, and we are trying to meet these requirements,” said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Our goal is to achieve average healthcare expenditure of 7 percent of the GDP over the next 6 years. For this reason, we have introduced changes in regulations, which even in 2022 will result in an increase in healthcare expenditure of PLN 4 billion. In 2019, for the first time in history, healthcare expenditure exceeded PLN 100 billion. This means an increase of PLN 30 billion compared to 2014. Furthermore, healthcare expenditure exceeded PLN 120 billion in 2021, and will exceed PLN 133 billion in 2022.

“For several years, we have also been putting a particular emphasis on educating new physicians. Today, I am proud to say that we have 20 thousand more physicians.”

The number of students taking courses in medicine as well as medicine and dentistry has been systematically increasing. Compared to 2015, said number has increased by 28 percent. The number of physicians and nurses has also increased. Compared to 2015, the number of physicians and dentists has increased by 11 percent. At the end of 2015, there were over 221 thousand nurses and fewer than 26 thousand midwives; at the end of 2021, we had 234 thousand nurses and nearly 29 thousand midwives.

PLN 2 billion towards modernisation of children’s hospitals

The Government will allocate PLN 2 billion from the Medical Fund towards modernisation of children’s hospitals. The funds can be used to build, modernise or purchase new equipment for hospitals.

“May there be as many such modern establishments in Poland as possible,” said the Prime Minister. Currently, applications submitted under the competition are being reviewed. Maximum grant for a single project is PLN 300 million.

Patients will enjoy:

  • better access to modern forms of diagnosis and therapy,
  • shorter waiting times for diagnosis and commencement of treatment,
  • comprehensive care at a single centre,
  • more comfortable stay in hospitals.
