22.06.2023

In an interview with TVP, Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński spoke about the reasons for his return to the government. He stressed that he wanted to make use of his experience. Prime Minister Kaczyński compared a government to a good host who can have a positive influence on the development of a country. He indicated numerous evidences of the good state of the Polish economy, which are reflected in, e.g., OECD statistics.

21 June 2023, Jarosław Kaczyński received his appointment to the Council of Ministers from President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda.

Selected extracts from the interview:

  • We are making the most of the opportunities. There is only one condition, the opportunity needs to be fully exploited. That good host, i.e., the good government. Not a perfect one, not composed of geniuses and angels, but a good one, composed of honest people who know how to do things.
  • In Poland, we have two types of candidates to govern, candidates to be the hosts, if I may use that word, that metaphor, as it is a metaphor to some extent. There are those who can and want to truly serve society and those who cannot or do not want to, and objectively (I do not know whether consciously or unconsciously) serve those who wish Poland harm.
  • Those are the most important elections since 1989. My absence from the government could indicate that I am avoiding the responsibility somehow, therefore I am in.
  • We have achieved 86% of the European Union average in terms of standard of living, real standard of living, i.e. income, but also all that a state gives under undertakings of a social nature. This is more than in Spain. It is more than in the Czech Republic. Although both countries are slightly richer than Poland. We are catching up.
  • We have received a few dozen or around a hundred euro per one Ukrainian person. Optimists say that it was a hundred [euro], while the more pessimistic analysts claim that it was only forty-five, for example, but it was 22,000. This is impudence, this is discrimination. This is one of the reasons to have a referendum, so that Poles can say, say it loudly - not only here in Poland, but also in Europe – ‘’no, we do not agree to something like that”.
  • We are the party of consent. We know that united we stand, divided we fall. We will strive for that consent, despite the fact that the situation is indeed extremely difficult in that respect, but after - I am convinced - the successful elections - we will strive to achieve that.
