Women in the labour market
Over the last 7 years, the growth rate of the presence of professionally active women in relation to the working age population in Poland was much higher than the EU average. In addition, in 2022, the share of women who ran their own business was 13.1 per cent of the total employed population, compared to 5.6 percent in Germany and 9.3 percent in France.
In Poland, we also have many women in managerial positions. In the fourth quarter of 2022, there were 42.5 percent of them. This was the second highest result in the European Union, after Latvia, which reached 44.8 percent.
According to Eurostat, our country is also ranked fourth among EU countries in terms of the smallest wage gap between women and men. In this respect, Poland is ahead of all Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands and France. In the years 2015-2021, the wage gap in our country decreased from 7.3 percent to 4.5 percent. At that time, there was a decrease in the EU from 15.5 percent to 12.7 percent
Government support for women
Polish women can benefit from various government programs. Thanks to them, they can decide whether they want to return to work or look after the child after the birth. To this end, we finance the expansion of nurseries and their operation. As a result, there are more childcare places for children aged under 3 in communes, and local governments can afford to admit the youngest ones to facilities. This allows Polish women to return to work faster, without significant expenses from the household budget.
- "Toddler+” - a program that allows to increase the number of childcare places for children up to 3 years of age. Thus, women can return to work earlier.
- "Family 500+" - an additional financial support for Polish families. Thanks to it, parents can buy clothes, school supplies or toys for their child.
- "Family Welfare Capital" - support payment for the second and each subsequent child from 12 to 35 months of age in the family. It makes it easier for parents to cope with increased expenses.
- “Good Start” - annual, one-off support for students who start the school year. It enables parents to buy books, school supplies or teaching aids for their child.
- "Mama+" - program supporting those who brought up at least four children, and did not take up professional work because of that.
