Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki: A safe Ukraine is also the Polish and European raison d'état

04.02.2022

In view of the difficult situation caused by the threat from Russia, Poland is providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine and plans to supply defensive weapons soon. These include artillery shells, mortars and grenade launchers. The Polish government is also seeking international assistance for Ukraine. As the Chair of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Poland is striving to organise diplomatic actions that will increase the chances of maintaining peace across our eastern border.

We are aware of the growing pressure from Russia. Ukraine has the determination to defend itself but often lacks the equipment. Whoever wants to be defended must have something to defend themselves with. Therefore, to do our part we must operate with speed and agency

– said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during a visit to the "Tarnów" Mechanical Plants.

Polish aid for endangered Ukraine

In addition to essential humanitarian aid, our country will soon provide Ukraine with military equipment for defence against the potential aggression of Russia. This includes tens of thousands of artillery shells and ammunition, mortars, grenade launchers and other defensive weapons.

As the head of the Polish government assured, the first military transport will leave for Ukraine as early as next week. All these measures are taken to strengthen the defence of the Ukrainian state that faces the threat from Russia.

Diplomatic action

The Polish government is also seeking international assistance for Ukraine. As the country that currently chairs the OSCE, together with President Andrzej Duda, we are striving to organise diplomatic actions to increase the chances of maintaining peace across our eastern border.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is also holding talks with many foreign leaders regarding this issue. Today he discussed security on the eastern flank of the European Union and NATO with the President of the European Council Charles Michel.

A safe Ukraine is also the Polish and European raison d'état

– stressed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
