Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announces new transformation programme for Silesia
22.12.2021
The Transformation 3.0 programme that is currently being prepared aims to bring post-industrial changes to create new jobs for Voivodeship inhabitants. To that end, it takes into account solutions that have proved successful in the Programme for Silesia in such fields as infrastructure, environmental protection, health care, education and local government official activity, comprising tens of billions in invested funding. Yet the government still strives to bring better perspectives, including innovative projects and future coal, gas, nuclear and hydrogen, as well as wind and sun technologies. Such solutions can help Silesia to fully capitalise on its potential.
Prime Minister Morawiecki took part in a session of the standing subcommittee for the transformation of regions threatened with exclusion in connection with the implementation of the Green Deal, as well as a session of the parliamentary team for the transformation of Silesian Voivodeship’s mining regions whose primary topic was the changes in the Silesia region. The announced transformation programme for the region provides for the improvement of the measures proposed so far and takes into account the current geopolitical situation.
Silesia’s transformation continues
As a region, Silesia boasts enormous potential in such areas as engineering, design and technology, as well as the activity of its universities. New solutions will be developed in cooperation with trade unions and presidents of coal and energy companies.
“This programme must be flexible. We will supplement it with state funding. I am convinced that with this kind of commitment of so many people, this programme is sure to succeed”, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
The head of the Polish government also stressed that the inhabitants of Silesia and the entire region must know how the changes will proceed. This is particularly vital today when Poland is dealing with the challenges related to the EU climate policy and evolving global economic situation.
Silesia before and after
Changes in the region are apparent already at first glance. Back in 2013, more than 2.3 million Poles struggled with unemployment. Since then, dozens of investors from all over the world have come to Silesia, in no small part thanks to the Katowice Special Economic Zone. This has also been made possible by active efforts on the part of the Polish government. Prime Minister Morawiecki recalled participating in talks with investors from such countries as Australia, Korea, China, Japan, as well as the United States and Canada, and partners from Western Europe.
Not only does today’s Silesia have one of the lowest unemployment levels in Poland, but it also boasts the lowest unemployment level in the history of the Third Polish Republic. On the other hand, the level of employee remuneration in Silesia is among the highest when compared to other regions. This proves the effectiveness of the actions taken so far. “We will spare no effort and expense to ensure that the transformation of the entire Silesian Voivodeship proceeds just as well”, the Prime Minister declared.
