Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki appeals to all drivers to drive safely, especially during the summer holidays
10.08.2022
One of the government's priorities is the safety of citizens, including safety on the road. Good infrastructure is a part of road safety. The government allocated PLN 3 billion to additional traffic lights, roundabouts, lanes, pavements and lighting for pedestrian crossings. A roadworthy vehicle is also an important aspect. That is why the prime minister commissioned the Road Transport Inspection to carry out detailed checks of vehicles on the roads, in particular coaches throughout Poland. The tragic accident of the Polish coach on 6 August 2022 in Croatia reminds us of the importance of safety when traveling. The head of the Polish government appealed to all drivers - please drive safely.
Inspections of the Road Transport Inspection
“Vehicle roadworthiness is crucial - this is why, among other things, I have instructed the Road Transport Inspection to intensify all vehicle safety checks, especially for buses and coaches carrying children who go to various types of summer camps. Parents must be sure that their children are riding in a safe vehicle” – said the Prime Minister.
The summer holiday season reminds us that the roadworthiness of vehicles is a priority. The Road Transport Inspection has been running the "safe coach" campaign since 2003. Its purpose is to ensure the safety of travelers going on vacation. From the beginning of this summer to 5 August, ITD inspectors checked nearly 1,450 coaches.

Improving the situation on Polish roads - government actions
We have allocated PLN 3 billion to improve road infrastructure and introduced key improvements in road regulations. These activities have contributed to the progress in road safety in Poland since 2015. The actions taken by the National Road Safety Council also contribute to the improvement of the road situation.
“A few years ago, in 2015, there were about 33,000 accidents in Poland. Today, we have reduced this number by 10,000 - that is a good thing. Our governmental actions aimed at improving road safety have led to this” – the prime minister appealed.
Polish coach accident in Croatia
On 6 August 2022, a tragic accident happened in Croatia. The Polish coach left the road and fell into a ditch by the motorway. The passengers were pilgrims from Poland. They were traveling to Medjugorje. There were 44 people in the vehicle. Unfortunately, not all survived, many were injured.
“We are doing everything to ensure that those injured in this accident can return to Poland and receive treatment here - those, of course, for whom such a trip is not a threat to their health” - the prime minister assured.
