The health of Poles is one of the government's priorities. We are not only taking care of infrastructure and modern equipment at facilities - we are improving the entire treatment system. We have purchased new premises for the Independent Public Health Care Centre of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Katowice. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki attended the official handover of the building on ul. Wita Stwosza to the hospital authorities. Patients will be transferred to the new facility at the beginning of October to benefit from modern medical care. In the new facility, the number of beds will increase from 120 to 266.

New building for a distinguished hospital

The Sergeant Grzegorz Załoga Hospital of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration has served patients in its former location for more than 100 years, which has worn down the building. Thanks to funding from the state budget, the facility will be moved to a modern and larger building. The health care centre at ul. Wita Stwosza will be able to accommodate twice as many people - as many as 266 patients will receive medical care in the new building. In the old location, the hospital could accommodate only 120 patients. Medical facilities will be as much as three times larger than at the old hospital site.

“I made the decision to purchase this building, which is excellently located in this part of Katowice, which is close to the motorway, and which is situated in such a way that it will be able to serve patients from the entire Silesia Province, not only from Katowice,” said the head of the Polish government. “It warm my heart to see the state-of-the-art operating theatres, when I see the great effort that went into putting this new hospital of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Katowice into use as soon as possible.”

Modern medical equipment

The hospital of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Katowice served as a temporary hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. The facility received medical equipment from government funding to provide specialised care to the people of Silesia Province. Now that the pandemic is over, the equipment will be moved to a new site to continue serving those in need.

“It is a great desire of our government for Polish patients to be treated to the highest possible standard. The hospital of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration in Katowice has shown its great quality in such difficult technical conditions, it has shown its great organisational skills by quickly building a temporary hospital - this temporary hospital that saved more than 1,000 lives during the COVID pandemic,” emphasised Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

We are increasing health care funding

We continue to invest in hospitals instead of closing them down. The health of Poles is the most important thing, which is why we are constantly striving to improve the functioning of the health care system. Every year we increase the budget for treating our citizens in the best conditions. Our predecessors in 2015 allocated PLN 77.2 billion for health care. In 2023, it is already PLN 170.3 billion.

“Thank you very much to all the medics, all the health care professionals, all the non-medical staff working in hospitals. It is something great, something very valuable - what you do. And we will always try - through our investments, such as this one - to help,” stressed the Prime Minister.

We have abolished limits on access to specialists and introduced free medicines for seniors 75+. Under #NoweKonkrety, the free medicines programme has been expanded to include two more groups:

  • people over 65 years of age
  • children and young people up to the age of 18.

This will result in 11.5 million more people benefitting from this solution.
