Polish capital is returning to Polish hands – since 2015, we have been reversing the sell-off and privatisation of Polish companies. Polish companies are competitive and growing. This brings further investment and jobs. It also translates into a better quality of life for residents and further boosts development. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki paid a visit to one such company. Wałbrzyskie Zakłady Koksownicze “Victoria” has recently undergone modernisation. The company is the largest producer of foundry coke in Europe and one of the largest employers in the Wałbrzych region.
We have stopped the sell-off of Polish assets
The times of political transformation in Poland brought many significant changes together with some negative consequences. The Polish economy was gradually sold off into the hands of foreign capital. Polish companies and firms were privatised and liquidated, and employees lost their jobs.
In 2015, we began to reverse this process. We prioritised recovering lost companies and rescuing those on the brink of bankruptcy. We succeeded in this, and today, we are investing in developing Polish companies – many of which are already flourishing and recording record profits, including in exports.
The Prime Minister visited Wałbrzyskie Zakłady Koksownicze “Victoria”, today Europe’s largest producer of foundry coke. The Prime Minister met the company’s employees and assured them that the government would take care of Polish companies.
“Dear employees, first of all, I thank you for your efforts, and I promise that we will not allow such important plants for the Wałbrzych region as WZK “Victoria” to go bankrupt. This is our strategic resource,” stressed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
Stopping the sell-off of Polish companies and investing in national assets are key elements of the government’s economic policy. This contributes to strengthening Poland’s sovereignty.
Strategic branches of our economy must be in Polish hands
As a government, we care about the security of Poland and its citizens in every respect. We also understand the importance of our country’s economic security. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emphasised during his visit to Wałbrzyskie Zakłady Koksownicze “Victoria” that coke is an excellent export commodity, which is why further investments and modernisation efforts are underway at the plant – it will continue to operate and develop.
“A few more words about this magnificent coke plant. I say magnificent because I really had the opportunity to watch some of the processes: hard work, toil, the sweat of one’s brow, produce a strategic raw material – coke,” said the Prime Minister. “This is Poland’s strategic raw material, and we will defend coke as a strategic raw material for the European Union and Poland,” he noted.
Poland must control its strategic branches of the economy and have companies that drive large-scale development and investment. Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, Orlen, Polskie Koleje Państwowe, Grupa Azoty, KGHM or Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT – these are just a few of the companies that provide stability and security for the functioning of our economy. They are also stable employers and ambassadors of the Polish economy abroad.
